Pevely, MO (July 31, 2004) I-55 Raceway had a full pit area of 127 racecars and a packed grandstand for the 2nd Annual Race Night for Special Champions. This event was presented by Shop N Save, 92.3 WIL, Nabisco, Praire Farms, and the Midwest Dairy Association to raise money for the Special Olympics. Shop N Save added an additional $15,000 to the nights winnings for the racers.

Don O'Neal earned the $5,000 first place prize in the U.M.P. (United Midwestern Promoters) Late Model division as he moved past early leader Brian Shirley on lap three and lead the remaining laps of the twenty-five lap main event. Shirley kept it close throughout the remaining laps and event got underneath O'Neal a few times near the halfway mark. However, O'Neal wasn't to be denied and went on to earn the win with Shirley claiming the second spot. Duke Whiseant and Randy Korte battled all twenty-five laps for the third spot with Whiseant earning the spot at the finish. Denny Woodworth followed Korte across the line to take fifth.

The late model semi feature was marred by a ten car crash on the opening lap on the front straightaway. Five of the ten cars were eliminated from the event. Since the crash happened before any laps were completed, Clay Baumann took the opportunity to pull out his backup car and restarted the semi with it and finished third. Brent Kreke, who's car ended up on top of Brian Garner's car in the accident, recovered from the ordeal and went on to win the semi feature. All the drivers involved in the accident were uninjured.

Mark Miner topped a huge field of forty-seven U.M.P. Modifieds to earn his first feature win of 2004. Dennis Richards took the lead on the opening lap from the outside of the front row. Jim Shereck moved past Richards on the second lap as they went down the backstretch, but Shereck spun as they entered turn four and was then hit head on by Chris Soutiea. It ended the night for both drivers but neither drivers were injured. Richards reassumed the lead on the restart and held off the challenges of Miner for the next fourteen laps, but Miner finally found his way around Richards with just four laps remaining and went on to take the win. Ray Wagner took the third spot, with Brian Wolfmeier and Ray Walsh rounding out the top five.

Paul Belken, Jr. earned the A.A.R.A (Allied Auto Racing Association) Sportsman win. Belken led all fifteen laps of the main event, but had to hold off Scott Stuppy who stayed glued to his back bumper throughout the event. Bob Prince took the third spot with Paul Bauman fourth and Bob Schmidt fifth.

Tony Wyatt earned the Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealers Hard Charger Award. Wyatt improved his finishing position by eleven spots over his starting position. Wyatt will receive a $200 bonus for being the hard charger.

Dave Heinrichs earned the win in the A.A.R.A. Pro 4 Stock division. Conrad Miner took second and Don Hoffman third.
