Kraig Kinser Sweeps World of Outlaws Sprint Series Racing Weekend With
Victory At I-55 Raceway

Kraig Kinser surged to the front in only six laps Saturday night at
I-55 Raceway and held off the charging Craig Dollansky to win a World
of Outlaws Sprint Series feature for the second consecutive night.
Kinser, who started on the pole and easily won Friday at Batesville
Speedway, was forced to work a little harder last night. He started
seventh, but followed Tim Kaeding to the front on the 1/3-mile
high-banked oval in one of the most intense races this season. With a
high cushion and multiple grooves working, cars slid back and forth,
high and low on seemingly every inch of dirt for the entire 40-lap
race.
By the fifth lap, Kinser and Kaeding were swapping second place as they
chased down pole-sitter Jason Meyers. One lap later, Kinser showed off
his horsepower and setup by sliding around Kaeding on the outside of
Turn 2 and then grabbing the lead from Meyers on the low side exiting
Turn 4.
But Dollansky wasnÂ’t going to let Kinser run away with the race. He
went low into Turn 3 and pinned Kaeding to the bottom. He carried his
momentum off of Turn 4 and into second before the caution flew on Lap
31, eliminating KinserÂ’s straightaway advantage.
On the restart with two lapped cars between Mean 15 racers Kinser and
Dollansky, Kinser shot out to the lead once again. By the time
Dollansky was able to work through the traffic, he ran out of time to
catch Kinser, who won by about a half-straightaway.
“I could not imagine having a better weekend,” said Kinser, a native of
Bloomington, Ind., who collected a combined $20,000 for his two
victories. “I just hope this good luck and good fortune continues.
“I followed Kaeding the first couple of laps and I saw that he was
losing a little bit running the bottom in Turns 1 and 2 so I went
around the top and got him. Then I just reeled Meyers in because he
didnÂ’t know the bottom was coming in. He couldnÂ’t do anything until
someone got by him.”
Following Kinser and Dollansky to the finish in the thrilling A-main
were Kaeding, Steve Kinser, Donny Schatz and Daryn Pittman.
“This racetrack produces some real good racing,” Dollansky said. “You
can get a couple of grooves going. You can do the sliding back and
forth. It seems like an exciting racetrack for the fans.”
It also marked the first time since he took the points lead last month
in Las Vegas that Dollansky has finished ahead of Steve Kinser in a
feature. After being tied in points with Kinser entering the night, his
second-place run was enough to boost him back atop the standings, four
points ahead of Steve Kinser and 55 points ahead of Kraig Kinser.
“It’s been a good strong start to the season,” said Dollansky, of Elk
River, Minn. “It’s a long season but it’s always good to get a good
start and not have to play catch-up. IÂ’m really happy with whatÂ’s going
on with this race team right now. We just have to stay on top of our
game and do the right things.”
For Kaeding, a Kevin Gobrecht Rookie of the Year Award contender, a
third-place run gives his Dennis Roth-owned Beef Packers team some
momentum as the series heads to Eldora Speedway next weekend.
“It was a good old time,” said Kaeding, of San Jose, Calif. “It was a
lot better than the last couple of weeks. We actually finished decent
and got a top five.
“We run a lot of bull rings like this back home. It was more of my
setup just because you can get up on the cushion. IÂ’m not a good bottom
runner, but somehow we got around on the bottom decent, too. Our
biggest thing right now is getting laps in and finishing races.”
In the Stacker 2® Dash, Meyers went to the high side in Turn 1 on the
fourth lap to slide past Chad Kemenah and earn his first pole position
of the season. In the second dash, Terry McCarl started on the pole and
quickly built a big lead and won while Pittman and Dollansky waged a
fierce battle for second.
In the B-main, Joey Saldana surged into the lead at the drop of the
green flag and cruised around on the cushion for a victory.
In the first heat, Tim Shaffer lined up on the outside of the front
row, charged into the lead at the drop of the green flag and led all 10
laps. In Heat No. 2, Danny Lasoski cruised around the low side of the
track and held off a high-side charge from McCarl to win. In the third
heat, Kelly Kinser started on the pole and led all 10 laps for the
victory. Kemenah won a wild Heat No. 4 that featured three-wide racing
as drivers fought to finish in the top five to earn a transfer spot to
the feature.
Steve Kinser paced the 49-car field with a lap around the 1/3-mile
high-banked oval in 10.211 seconds at 117.509 mph, barely off of Stevie
SmithÂ’s track record 10.189 seconds set on March 30, 2002.
“The track was a little better for the earlier guys [who qualified],”
Steve Kinser said. “I went out early and the track slowed down a little
bit as the later guys went out.”
Next weekend, April 8-9, the World of Outlaws Sprint Series rolls into
historic Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Last season, Sammy
Swindell, Jason Sides, Dale Blaney, Danny Lasoski and Steve Kinser all
won features at Eldora, which was purchased during the off-season by
LasoskiÂ’s car owner and NASCAR star, Tony Stewart.

Pevely, MO (April 2, 2005) A large field of fourty-one United Midwestern Promoters (U.M.P.) Modifieds were on hand for the first race night of the 2005 season at I-55 Raceway! Brian Wolfmeier of House Springs, MO got his 2005 season off to a great start as he won every event he raced in.
Brian Wolfmeier and Ray Wagner started on the front row of the main event and the two race side by side for the first five laps before Wolfmeier pulled ahead. Wolfmeier set the pace for the last fifteen laps as Wagner settled back into second place and fought off Bobby Bittle late in the race as Bittle finished third. Aaron Ricketts made the long trip from northeast Illinois and had a great night as he took fourth in the feature event after winning his qualifying heat race earlier in the night. Doug Wood claimed the fifth spot as he worked his way through the field from the twelfth starting position.
James Reed claimed the Missouri/Illinois Dodge Dealers Hard Charger Award. Reed started twenty-third in the main event and came across the finish line in eleventh. Reed will receive a $200 bonus for his effort!
The qualifying heat winners were Aaron Ricketts, Brian Wolfmeier, Billy Smith, Tim Hancock and Ray Wagner. Wolfmeier claimed the dash and Brent Thompson and Ray Walsh won the last chance qualifiers.
