Pevely, MO (April 4, 2009) I-55 Raceway got their 2009 racing season kicked off in dramatic fashion! There were 112 racecars that filled the pit area to compete in the four divisions at I-55 Raceway.
Tim Manville of Highland, Illinois collected his very first feature victory in his young career in the U.M.P. DIRTcar Super Late Model division. As always, Manville had to beat out a stellar field of Super Late Models at I-55 Raceway. At the drop of the green flag, pole sitter Randy Korte jumped out to the lead, however Manville fell in behind Korte and stayed glued to his rear bumper as they raced around the 1/3 mile dirt oval. In just a few short laps, 2008 I-55 Raceway Track Champion Billy Faust would move into the third position and join Korte and Manville for the battle for the lead. All three diced through lapped traffic as they battled for the lead. A couple of cautions just past half way involving cars running in the top five slowed the field, one for Craig Smith's broken front suspension and the other for Brent Kreke who slowed when he lost oil pressure. This allowed Korte, Manville and Faust to regroup and get away from lapped traffic for a short while. However, it only took a couple of laps after the final caution period for the leaders to reach lapped traffic again and Manville made his move on Korte as he dove under him as they went to turn four. Korte and Manville traded a little paint as they exited turn four and fought for the lead down the front stretch. Manville would get the advantage going into turn one and proceeded to pull away in final six laps and take the win. Korte would hold off Faust for second. Faust took the third spot with Brian Dively crossing the line in fourth. Ed Dixon brought his machine home with a fifth place finish as he rode the highside and moved up from the eleventh starting position.

The U.M.P. DIRTcar Modifieds once again put on a spectacular show that saw three different leaders in the final eight laps. Ray Walsh took lead at the start and led the first twelve laps with Ricky Horton running a close second. Scott Weber, who started third, lost a couple of spots early in the event, but found a faster line after started moving towards the front. On lap twelve, Weber and Horton would make it three-wide with Walsh for the lead with Weber taking over the top spot. Weber's lead would only last a few short laps before Horton would move under Weber to take over the top spot. Horton would go on to score the victory with Weber taking second. Bobby Bittle finish in the third position with Rusty Griffaw finishing fourth and Tim Hancock completed the top five.

Troy Naeger claimed the victory in the U.M.P. DIRTcar Sportsman division. Naeger moved past pole-sitter Jeff LeBaube on lap three and then had to hold off LeBaube in the closing laps to take the win. LeBaube would have to settle for a second place finish. Tim Hollerbach would finish in the third position with Danny Ems finishing fourth. Tom Smallwood completed the top five.

Chris Fisher returned to the U.M.P. DIRTcar/A.A.R.A. Pro 4 Stock division and started the season off with a victory over a huge field of competitors. Five other cars battled with Fisher in a big pack for the lead. Philip Stuart would claim the second spot with Just McCallister taking third. Jason Crump would finish fourth and Jacob Buechting completed the top five.
