Saturday, August 8th, was a fun filled night at the Highland Speedway. The Gateway Vintage cars paid a return visit. It is always fun to watch them race around the track. The night was sponsored by Lee’s Loan of Highland. They also held a Diamond Dig during intermission for 10 lucky ladies. It was also ladies night and the ladies got in for half price. Next week will be senior citizen night sponsored by Daum Insurance. Seniors 62 and over will get in for half price. The UMP Pro Late Models (crates) will also visit the speedway next week.

Leading off the action for the night was the 21 car Steve Schmitt Modified division. It was Mike Harrison who took the first checkered flag of the evening in the first heat leading Chris Smith, Dean Hoffman, and Robbie Eilers. Second heat went to Chad Sellers, then Eric Goetter, Roger Fohne, and Karl Hartung. Third heat top dog was Jim Werner, Jr who beat out Andy Oswald, Nick Hoffman, and Tyler Deibert. The dash saw Sellers take the win over Harrison, Chris Smith, and Werner, Jr. In the Feature, it was Mike Harrison who took his fourth checkered flag of the season. He was chased by Chris Smith, Dean Hoffman, Werner, Jr, Robbie Eilers, Nick Hoffman, Sellers, Oswald, Deibert, Eric Faust, Marty Smith, Jr, Steve Lach, Fohne, Steve Ellison, Paul Becker, Adam Haas, Travis Koehler, Eric Goetter, Mike Linsky, Joe Hauk, and Karl Hartung.

The Extreme Sportsman series visited the speedway and had 24 cars in the UMP Sportsman division. But the night belonged to Ryan Eilers who brought his broom along to the race track. First winner in the division was Andy Casper who beat out Jimmy Cummins, Gary Haynes, and Stu Springer in the first heat. Second heat saw Ryan Eilers take his first checkered flag of the night by leading Mark Bohnenstiehl, Corey Ford, and Nathan Schmitt. Third heat saw Allan Geiseking take the win then Tory Ernst, Bert Jacoby, and Danny Ems. Dash order of finish behind Ryan Eilers was Ernst, Casper, and Geiseking. Taking his second checkered flag of the season in the Feature and completing his sweep of the evening was Ryan Eilers. He was chased by Geiseking, Ernst, Cummins, Haynes, Bohnenstiehl, Jacoby, Russell Eilers, Ford, Springer, Ems, Greg Spencer, Rick Johnson, Aaron Melton, Nathan Schmitt, Jon Ripperda, Danny Beard, Bryan Slover, Adam Haas, Lenny Garson, Josh Case, Casper, Rob Lee and John Cooper DQ.

 There were 22 UMP Late Models that came to race, but it was Mark Faust who swept the division. First winner of the division was Rick Salter who led Brian Wolfmeier, Marty Smith, Jr, and Paul Bailey. Seond heat saw Mark Voigt take the win over John Beck, Mike Schulte, and Michael Kloos. In the third heat, it was Faust who took is first checkered flag of the evening by leading Chad Zobrist, Brent Helmkamp, and Dick Taylor. Chasing Mark Faust in the dash were Salter, Wolfmeier, and Zobrist. For the 7th time this season and completing his sweep of the evening, it was Mark Faust who crossed the finish line first in the Feature. Order of finish after Faust was Bailey, Wolfmeier, Beck, Voigt, Frankie Martin, Danny Ripperda, Helmkmap, Michael Jacober, Kloos, Steve Leach, Jason Zobrist, Mick Schulte, Dick Taylor, Bruce Unterbrink, John Cory, Chad Zobrist, Shannon Kuhn, Jimmy Burwell, Marty Smith, Jr, DNS, Salter NDS, and Matt Weidner DNS.

Next up was the 23 car UMP Factory Stock division. Again it was Bob Zbinden who swept the division. He led off the division by winning the first heat over Charlie Durbin, Dale Bohnenstiehl, and Jason Suhre. Seond heat had Jordan Suhre who led Justin Suhre, Ryan Emig and Nick Knebel. Third heat top dog was Sean Denison who was chased by Matt Hamblin, Justin Hall, and Trevor Isaak. Taking his ninth checkerd flag of the season in the Feature was Bob Zbinden. Order of finish after him was Denison, Justin Suhre, Knebel, Durbin, Jason Suhre, Eddie Sterns, Bohnenstiehl, Trevor Isaak, Austin Issak, Chad Burgess, Justin Shaw, Joe Joyce, Emig, Joe Swip, Bill Burke, Tracy VonRohr, Jordan Lake, Hamblin, Jordan Suhre, Rick Viviano, Aaron Wood DNS, and Justin Hall DNS.

The Street Stock division had the highest car count of the evening with 27. There was another driver that brought his broom along to the track. It was Kory Reigel. He won the first heat over Jeff Buss, Justin Leichsenring, and Darrin Patton.  Seond heat went to Jake Hewitt, then Pete Cory, Dennis Hornbostel, and AJ Cline. Third heat top dog was Billy Kruep who beat out Michael Ripperda, Jr, Terry McCann, and Zach Hoffman. Dennis Ponder took the Consi leading TJ Eilers, John Cory, Dusty Sampson, Stephen Flannery, Jr, Michael Leichsenring, Bill Austin, Vince Pratt, James Rhoades, Jr, Chris Harper DNS, Jon Huegen DNS, and Brian Meyer DNS. Taking his first checkered flag of the season in the Feature was Kory Reigel. He was chased by Hewitt, Billy Kruep, Ripperda, Jr, Buss, Cory, Justin Leichsenring, Brad Venhaus, Hornbostel, Cline, McCann, Hoffman, Ponder, Cory, Sampson, Patton, Flannery, Jr, Eilers, Marcus Kruep, and Stephen Fohne.

The Gateway Vintage cars had 12 racers. Taking the first heat was Carrie Haverstick who beat out Bryan Krammer, Randy Horton, Jr, and Dave White, Sr. Second heat saw Geroge McClintock lead Larry Cunningham, Frankie Martin, and Marc McClintock. Feature order of finish was George McClintock, White, Sr, Horton, Jr, Carrie Haverstick, Martin, Cunningham, Joe Hauck, Marc McClintock, Krammer, Scott Kuhn, Cheryl Wolfmeier, and Dale Haverstick.
