Pevely, MO (May 29th, 2010) After a three week layoff due to the weather, the racing action resumed at I-55 Raceway on Saturday night in a big way! Just under 140 racecars jammed the pit area to compete on the high banked 1/3 mile oval. Near perfect track conditions provided some top notch racing action for large crowd on hand as well.

Ken Schrader and Billy Faust provided a classic battle in the UMP DIRTcar Late Model main event! The two fought side-by-side for the final fourteen laps and the winner wasn’t decided until they exited turn four and hit the start/finish line. Jason Frankel and Brant Kehrer paced the field to the green flag on the start of the twenty-five lap main event with Jason Frankel getting the early advantage. Schrader, who started third, rocketed into the second spot right behind Jason Frankel as they completed lap one. Schrader would soon disperse of Jason Frankel and take over the top spot. Meanwhile, Billy Faust was on the move from his sixth place starting spot as he quickly took over the second spot a couple of laps later and began chasing down Schrader for the lead. Denny Woodworth was also shooting through the field from his ninth place starting spot and would take over third from Jason Frankel before ten laps were completed. As the laps ticked off, Faust and Schrader fought fiercly for the lead. Faust would finally get by Schrader with just nine laps remaining and appeared he was on his way to victory. However, Schrader would move to the very bottom of the track and once again pull along side Faust for the lead and the two battled to the end with Schrader edging Faust at the line using the low side. Faust would finish a very close second with Woodworth taking third. Rickey Frankel would edge Jason Frankel at the end to get fourth.

The UMP DIRTcar Modified main event would be just as exciting as five different drivers led laps in a hotly contested battle which sometimes had them three wide for the lead. Jim Black and Ricky Horton would start on the front row and Black would get the early advantage. Horton would move into the lead a couple of laps later by using the high side. However, Black would keep the pressure on Horton for the lead as he powered along side Horton lap after lap on the low side. Meanwhile, Bobby Bittle, Rusty Griffaw and Ray Walsh had a battle of their own raging right behind the leaders as they were continuously swapping those positions around. After a caution on lap nine, Horton would led the field to the green flag again. Disaster would strike for the top two as they raced through turns three and four as Horton, who was racing on the high side, would spin down the track and collect the second place car of Black. The contact would end both drivers nights and turned the lead over to Bittle with Griffaw and Walsh second and third. Those three would then fight it out over the final ten laps, swapping the positions around time after time and racing two and three wide to the end. Bittle would make better time through lapped traffic in the closing laps and earn the win. Griffaw would get a close second with Walsh taking third. Matt Zimmerly would finish in the fourth spot and Josh Russell completed the top five.

Troy Naeger and Jeff Herzog would lead the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman division to the green flag and Herzog would take control and lead the first eleven laps until the first caution would fly for the car of Scott Hammack who fell off the pace after mechanical problems. On the restart, Herzog’s car failed to come up to speed, allowing Naeger and a host of other cars to speed past. Herzog would then find trouble a lap later as he and point leader Trey Harris would get together. After another restart, Naeger would pull away to take the win with Gary Haynes finishing a close second. Brad Paquet would take third with Steve Edgecombe getting the fourth spot. Ryan Gegg would complete the top five.

The UMP DIRTcar / AARA Pro 4 Stocks didn’t disappoint the fans either as they would battle two and three wide and swap the lead around as well. Justin McCallister and Mike McGinnitey would battle in the early laps for the lead, but contact between the two would send McGinnitey spinning. That would setup and fierce fight between McCallister, Jeff Turner and Philip Stuart for the top spot in the closing laps as they battled two and three wide down to the wire. Turner would claim the hard fought win with McCallister getting second and Stuart third. Ben Cochran would get fourth and Chuck Johnson fifth.
