USMTS - United States Modified Touring SeriesPOCOLA, Okla. (April 25) – The USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy embarks on a four-week campaign of high-paying, high-horsepower events this week with four big events beginning this Thursday, April 28, through Sunday, May 1.

The USMTS $pring $wing will take place over the next four weekends with 14 shows over the course of 25 days and over $200,000 in prize money awaiting the nation’s elite open-wheel dirt Modified drivers. Each event will pay $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start the main event.

The action kicks off this Thursday, April 28, with the fourth trip in four years to the Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Okla. The inaugural event in 2008 saw Eddie Martin hold off nine-time USMTS National Champion Kelly Shryock and Jason Hughes for the win. Hughes bounced back for the win in 2009 and backed it up with another victory last year.

Pit gates will open at 4 p.m., grandstand gates open at 5, hot laps begin at 6:45 and the first heat race takes the green flag at 7:30. Also on the racing card will be Super Stocks, E-Mods and Pure Stocks.

The Tri-State Speedway is a 3/8-mile high-banked dirt oval located 1.6 miles west of the Arkansas-Oklahoma State line on US 271, then 0.3 mile north on W. Race Track Rd. For more information call 918-687-9200 or 918-436-2914 on raceday or visit www.tri-statespeedway.com online.

On Friday, April 29, the Outlaw Motor Speedway near Muskogee, Okla., welcomes back the USMTS Modifieds for the 3rd Annual Creek Nation Casino Spring Fling. Hughes is a two-time winner at “The Outlaw” too with a win in March last year as well as the inaugural event in 2003 while Tommy Myer captured the second night of action eight years ago.

Ryan Gustin made his debut with the Gressel Racing team one year ago at the Outlaw Motor Speedway and has since racked up a series-leading 21 victories during the last year, including June 11 last season when the track added that date just two days earlier after another track canceled their event in the eleventh hour.

Gates open at 5:30 and racing begins at 8 p.m. Factory Stocks, Pure Stocks, Grand Nationals and 360 Modifieds will also be in action.

The Outlaw Motor Speedway is located southwest of Muskogee on I-40 to US 69, then 10 miles north to the Wainwright Exit, then 0.1 mile east. For more information call 918-687-9200 or visit www.outlawmotorspeedway.com online.

Less than 90 miles northeast, the too-tough-to-tame tour returns to the West Siloam Speedway near West Siloam Springs, Okla., on Saturday, April 30, for the seventh event in five years. Under new ownership this year, promoter Joey Ross welcomes the USMTS Modifieds back to the 3/8-mile high-banked red clay oval after a one-year hiatus.

Kelly Shryock won the first race at West Siloam on March 16, 2007, while Jay Noteboom was the winner on the second night of that doubleheader – the first win in USMTS competition by a Modified utilizing a quick change rear end. Jason Krohn and Steve Holzkamper each graced the winners circle in 2008 and Jason Hughes swept both nights of action in 2009 en route to capturing his second consecutive USMTS Southern Series crown.

Support classes on Saturday will be Late Models, Sport Stocks, Super Sport Stocks and 360 Modifieds. Gates open at 3 p.m. and racing starts at 6 p.m.

The West Siloam Speedway is located 5.5 miles west of Arkansas/Oklahoma State Line on US 412. For more information call 918-530-6030 or 918-422-5009 on race day or check out www.westsiloam.com on the World Wide Web.

All three events on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will award points in both the Schwab’s Tinker Shop Mo-Kan Region and the newly-formed Southwest Region.

The month of May begins on Sunday, May 1, at the Monett Speedway in Monett, Mo., for the final event in the Schwab’s Tinker Shop Mo-Kan Region.

Two years ago during The Hunt for the USMTS National Championship, Ryan Gustin scored the victory by holding off Terry Phillips in a nail-biter at Randy Mooneyham’s 3/8-mile red clay oval, but Phillips bounced back last season to earn the win over Tim Donlinger and Gustin.

The inaugural USMTS event in 2004 went to Kelly Shryock as he went on to win his sixth straight USMTS National Championship. Shryock also won at ‘The Grand Ol’ Lady’ in 2007.

Johnny Bone Jr. is the three-time defending USRA Modified track champion and a two-time USMTS main event winner at Monett along with defending USMTS National Champion Jason Hughes. Other former winners include Mark Noble and George White.

Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps begin at 6:30 and the racing action kicks off at 7 p.m. Street Stocks, Legends Cars and Pure Stocks are also on the menu.

The Monett Speedway is a 3/8-mile semi-banked red clay oval located just south of US 60 on Chapel Dr. For more information, visit www.monettspeedway.com or call 417-224-7074.

Gustin currently leads the Schwab’s Tinker Shop Mo-Kan Region points battle over Hughes, while Jon Tesch sits third ahead of Kelly Shryock and Dustin Boney. Other drivers expected for the kick-off weekend for the USMTS $pring $wing include Johnny Scott, Rick Beebe, Rodney Sanders, Zack VanderBeek, Bryan Rowland, Terry Schultz, Tommy Myer, Chase Junghans, Jerry Standifer, Austin Siebert, Mickey Burrell, Mark Dotson and many more.
