Tim Manville edges Jason McBride at the finish line to win the UMP Late Model Feature!

Pevely, MO (May 7th, 2011) Tim Manville claimed his first UMP DIRTcar Late Model Feature win of 2011 at I-55 Raceway by edging Jason McBride at the finish line after a great battle between the two of them in the closing laps. Fifteen year old Tyler Reddick started on the pole for the main event and led the first two laps before he had to pit under yellow to change a flat tire. That turned the lead over to Dave Jumper who would lead for several laps before Michael Kloos would steal the lead away. Kloos would only lead down the front stretch as he would suffer a left rear flat as well. Under the same caution, Mark Voigt would have to pull in and change a left rear flat as well. Jumper would pace the field on the restart but he would only lead a couple of more laps before Jason McBrider stormed past him for the lead. McBride would open up a comfortable lead before another caution would slow the field. Under that caution, Jumper’s night would come to an early end as well. On the restart McBride would once again pull away to a big lead. McBride enjoyed almost a full straight-away lead briefly. As he worked lapped traffic, Manville began to reel him in. It would take Manville ten laps to reel in McBride, but with just two laps remaining Manville would take the lead from McBride. McBride would fight back and the two would race side-by-side for much of the final two laps. Manville would hold him off for the win. Tyler Reddick stormed back through the field after changing his flat tire on lap two and would finish third behind McBride. Dewayne Kiefer would get fourth with Tim Ratajczyk rounding out the top five.

Rusty Griffaw
Rusty Griffaw

Rusty Griffaw got his first UMP DIRTcar Modified win of 2011 at I-55 Raceway. Another spectacular UMP DIRTcar Modified feature between no less than ten cars battling it out for the top spot at various points. Brian Shaw paced the field for much of the event with Griffaw, Brent Mullins, Ray Walsh and Scott Weber all hounding him for the led. Griffaw would finally make the pass on Shaw on lap twelve and Shaw would immediately pull off the track as his engine lost oil pressure. A few laps later, Walsh and Weber would get together down the front stretch with Weber getting into the outside wall. Weber’s night would be over and Walsh would have to pit to change a flat tire which ended both driver’s chances of victory. Meanwhile, Paul Bauman, Tim Hancock, Dennis Richards, Doug Wood and Bobby Bittle all joined Griffaw and Mullins in a battle at the front. Griffaw would prove to be too strong and hang on for the win. Bauman made a last corner pass on Mullins to get second. Hancock would finish fourth behind Mullins with Richards rounding out the top five.

Troy Naeger
Troy Naeger

Troy Naeger jumped to the lead at the drop of the green flag in the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman main event and held off the challenges of Jeff Herzog to lead all 15 laps en-route to the win. While those two battled for the top spot, Mark Spraul and Steve Edgecombe had a great battle for the third spot. At the finish the top five would be Naeger, Herzog, Spraul, Edgecome and Trey Harris. The second Sportsman heat race was marred by an incredible three car crash down the front stretch that sent Craig Bessinger flipping end over end numerous times and causing major damage to the cars of Scott Henseler and Dave Armstrong as well. None of the three drivers were injured.

Jacob Rexing
Jacob Rexing

Jacob Rexing led all ten laps of the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Pro 4 Stock main event to earn the victory. Rexing had to hold off the challenge of Earl Pryor on three different restarts with just one lap to go as different cars kept causing cautions on the final lap. Each time Rexing held off Pryor’s challenge on the low side. This was Rexing’s first ever win at I-55 Raceway. Pryor would finish second with Rodney George taking third. Justin Reado would finish fourth and Joe Merritt rounded out the top five.
