Pevely, MO (May 21st, 2011) The forecasted wet weather never came to fruition and the sun shined all day with the temperature approaching 90 degrees at I-55 Raceway. With the rain further down south and the cancellation of the Bad Boy 98 at Batesville, Arkansas, several drivers stopped in at I-55 Raceway on their way back home.

Dennis Erb, Jr.
Dennis Erb, Jr.

Dennis Erb, Jr. of Carpentersville, Illinois was one of those drivers and it paid off handsomely as he brought home the win in the UMP DIRTcar Late Model main event. Erb started on the outside of the front row and took the lead from pole sitter Mark Voigt on lap two after they raced side by side for the first lap. Erb stayed out front just a couple of car lengths ahead of Voigt and Tyler Reddick as they swapped around the second spot several times over the next few laps. After a caution restacked the field, Voigt would get into the rear quarter panel of Erb as they races into turn one. That would slow Erb and Voigt’s momentum just enough that Reddick would slip past both of them to take the lead as they raced down the back stretch. Reddick’s lead would only last for two laps as Erb would power past him on the outside to regain the lead. That put Voigt and Reddick back into another battle for the second spot. As the laps began to wind down, Voigt would finally dispose of Reddick would begin to run down Erb again. Voigt would make it interesting as he would pull along side Erb as they raced through turns three and four coming down to the white flag. Erb would hold him off on the final lap to take the win. Voigt would finish second with Reddick finishing third. Tim Manville and Randy Korte had their own battle raging for the fourth spot throughout the event. Manville would get the best of it and take fourth with Korte rounding out the top five.

Rusty Griffaw
Rusty Griffaw

Rusty Griffaw and Tim Hancock would have a great battle for all twenty laps along with Ray Walsh joining the battle for the last five laps in the UMP DIRTcar Modified main event. Griffaw would lead all twenty laps while running a unique line around the high banked one-third mile track. Griffaw would enter turns one and three on the low side and stay in the gas and let the car go all the way to the outside wall as he went through turns two and four. Hancock would use the low and high side to try and make a move on Griffaw, but couldn’t find the momentum to make the pass. Walsh would move in late in the race and challenge Hancock for the second spot but he too would come up short in making the pass and would settle for third. Scott Weber raced his way through the field to the front after starting way back in the ninteenth starting spot. Bobby Regot, III had one of his best runs ever at I-55 Raceway and rounded out the top five.

Troy Naeger
Troy Naeger

Troy Naeger and Steve Edgecombe battled it out for the lead for the first several laps of the UMP DIRTcar/AARA Sportsman main event. Naeger would finally make the pass and clear Edgecombe for the lead and appeared to be on his way to a dominating win. Several late race cautions would restack the field and give Trey Harris and Jeff Herzog a shot at getting the lead from Naeger. Naeger would prove to be too strong and would bring home the win. Harris would finish second with Herzog taking third. Brad Paquet would get the fourth spot with Chuck Adams rounding out the top five.

Earl Pryor
Earl Pryor

Earl Pryor won a thrilling UMP DIRTcar/AARA Pro 4 Stock main event. Cars battled three and four wide at the front for the first four or five laps before Pryor finally got control of the top spot. Pryor would hold off second place finisher Aron Faulkner for the win. Dayton Racer would take the third spot with Blake Jost getting fourth and Jacob Rexing completed the top five.
