POWRi Speedway Outlaw Micro SprintsWAYNE CITY, Ill. (May 21, 2011)—Dereck King started from pole and led all 25 laps to take a dominant victory Saturday in the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Outlaw Micro Series at Wayne County Speedway.

“We were good from the get go,” King said. “We won our heat and qualifier and got the points to start on the pole. The car was super hooked up. We’ve won here in the past. It’s one of the tracks we run well at.”

King, of Vienna, Ill., is a Micro master. He was the POWRi 600cc Micro champion for three straight seasons, 2007-09, and his win on the 1/5-mile track Saturday was the 110th of his career.

“I’ve kept track of all my feature wins,” King said. “I’m not sure how many I’ve had in POWRi, but it’s in the thirties.”

King was the POWRi points leader entering the event. He had finished second in the two previous features this season.

“We’ve had a good season,” King said. “FTZ Honda has given us excellent engines and we’ve had great support from Subway.”

Paul Nienhiser, a 14-year-old from Chapin, Ill., finished second and Trenton Beckinger, of Evansville, Ind., was third.

“The car was pretty good,” Nienhiser said. “I dialed it in. I couldn’t find a good spot to run over the bumps in Turns Three and Four. Dereck was able to do that, he had his car hooked up really good.”

Beckinger passed Joe B. Miller on the outside exiting Turn Four with three laps remaining.

“It pretty much took me the whole race to set up the pass,” Beckinger said. “I had to be careful and take my chance and I got it. I kept the car under control.”

Miller, of Millersville, Mo., finished fourth and Aaron Andruskevitch, of Riverton, Ill., was fifth.

The next event for POWRi’s 600cc Outlaw Micros is June 3 at Fayette County Speedway in Brownstown, Ill.
