(Warrensburg, MO) – Extreme heat and weekly racing action returned to the ‘Fastest High Banked Clay Oval in the Midwest’ on Saturday night at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS), presented by Cliff Harris Warrensburg Ford and Chrysler. This weekend, four winning drivers entered the Waterloo Storage Products victory lane for winner’s circle celebrations after taking the checkered flags and the Waterloo Storage Products tool boxes for their winning efforts.

Each feature included exciting action for the race fans enduring the summer heat. Chad Lyle from Oak Grove, was victorious in the modifieds, Jon Binning from Warrensburg earned the ULMA late model victory for the first win this season. In the street stocks, Brian Ziegler from Bates City took his second feature win this season and Jacob Ebert from Oak Grove walked away with his fourth feature victory in the b-modifieds.

Starting the CMS weekly points racing action for the evening events were the Brooks Automotive B-Modified drivers with three heat races for the 18 cars checked into the pits. Bobby Raybourn took the checkered flag in heat one with a convincing win as Lucas Isaacs claimed heat two for his first heat win this season. In the final heat, Jacob Ebert garnered his fourth heat win this year. After intermission, the b-modified 15-lap main event started when Ebert led the event early on with Lucas Isaacs working high and low to run strong near the front. Isaacs was then challenged by Brad Smith for the second spot. After several yellow flag incidents, Isaacs grabbed second place and maintained his position with Smith close behind. At the end, Ebert was strong enough to hold off a late challenge from Isaacs and drove into victory lane for his fourth feature win. Isaacs placed second for his best finish this season. Brad Smith finished with a solid third place after an early race problem in turn four when he departed the track. Jason Billups finished fourth with Bobby Russ Wood rounding out the top five.

The Expressways Food Shop, Eickleberry Concrete, and Brooks Automotive Street Stocks placed their 14 machines on the track for two heat races. Larry Ferris grabbed his first heat win in heat one as Nate Barnes nipped Scotty Dukes for heat two for his first heat win this season. Barnes and Ferris started on the front row with Brian Ziegler making a statement early on in the feature with strong moves on the low-side to the front of the field. Then, Michael Mullins and Chad Eickleberry moved up into a battle for second until Eickleberry got loose in turn four and tangled with Jerry Schmidt. Schmidt then had to leave the track with a flat tire. Several more drivers brought out yellow flags as Ziegler continued to battle with Mullins up front for the lead. Late in the race, Ziegler protected the low side and hung on to gain his second feature trophy at CMS. Herb Danner posted a strong runner-up finish after passing Mullins on the final lap for his best finish this year. Mullins, the point’s leader in street stocks, came home in third, Eickleberry fourth and Ferris finished the top five.

Next up were the Rod End Supply, Bodee’s Race Bodies, B&D Transmission, All-American Auto ULMA Late Models for two heats with eleven cars. In the first heat, Shawn Rayfield took the victory just ahead of Jason Bodenhamer. Then, Jon Binning took another well earned win claiming the second heat race. Early on in the 20-lap main event, Binning using the low line to move into the lead with Rayfield staying right with him on a higher line in second position. The previous feature winner, Brett Wood, pulled off early in the race with engine problems, which ended his night. James McMillin then powered his way to the front to leave the field to clash for the second spot. Binning and Rayfield put on a show for second with Binning finally earning the position late in the race. Ultimately, McMillin held on after several re-starts and made a powerful run to the checkered flag picking up his first apparent ULMA win. However, after a post-race disqualification, McMillin relinquished the trophy to Jon Binning, who was credited with the ULMA feature win. Binning ran a solid race using the high side to earn the victory, Rayfield moved up into second with Kevin Coyne third after staying in the top five most of the night. Jason Bodenhamer was unusually quiet with a fourth place finish and Trace Westling rallied again this week for another solid top five finish at CMS.

A tough field of 26 modified drivers highlighted the Beebe Heating & Cooling, Seeburg Mufflers, Cornerstone Agency, and Dale’s Towing Modifieds with four hard-fought heats. The four heat winners included Chad Lyle in heat number one and David McVey in heat two. In heat three, Curt Rackers battled with Shad Badder and was victorious for his first heat win this year and in a stacked final heat, Aaron Marrant looked strong down low on the track for the win with Bodenhamer just behind. Rackers and Marrant were the top two drivers with the highest passing points and led the 26 starting drivers to the green flag for the 25-lap main event. Rackers and Marrant battled early on for the top spot until Marrant seized the lead on the low side. After the initial restart, with Marrant leading, six cars piled up in turn four causing the first yellow of the feature. After several green flag laps, Jason Thompson uncharacteristically spun in turn four ending his night with his second yellow flag after being involved in the six car pile-up. Marrant was then challenged by Chad Lyle who worked patiently behind him until late in the race. With just three laps remaining and Marrant protecting the low-side, Lyle worked around him and completed the pass on the front chute with the fans cheering him on. Lyle snatched the feature win as the double checkers flew for his first win at CMS after several second places finishes this season. Lyle later said “this was the third feature win for this car after the past two weekends.” Marrant took second while Dean Wille scrambled his way up into third for his best CMS finish this year. Rackers looked tough all night and finished fourth with Terry Schultz in fifth.
