SFCR - St. Francois County RacewayFarmington, MO (June 11) – With Mother Nature providing excellent weather and cold drinks from Pepsi, history was repeated again on Saturday at St Francois County Raceway.

The Sprint Division main was one for the ages as Tommy Worley, Jr made a statement by taking his third event in a row. Driving the Alan Barton owned, Hedman Hedders, K & N Filters, and Red Line Oil sprinter, Worley started his quest inside row two behind pole sitter Jimmy Hurley. The green waved and these two took off followed by a returning Jason Keith, Joey Boyd and Robbie Standridge. Hurley looking to makeup for last week in which he led the event until the last two-thirds of a lap. Building his lead and working traffic to his advantage, Hurley was slowed by caution periods on Lap 7 and 9 for stalled car of Jimmy Bridgeman. On the insuing restart for Lap 9, the red flag came out for Late Model veteran, Brandon Sheppard, New Berlin, IL as he found the outside wall and rolled his mount. He would be done for the event. The red showed up again on Lap 10 for the tumbling car of Jeff Wurst. Drivers from both tumbles walked away under their own power. The final fifteen laps were under green. Hurley and Worley were in slower traffic in a very short time. Hurley had cars between himself and Worley. Working the final laps heavier traffic was coming into play. Going into turn one for the final time Worley made his move and drove under Hurley for the lead down the back straight. Hurley made the last ditch attempt coming into three and out of four. Hurley actually took the lead at the top of the straight, but had scrubbed off to much speed and Worley shot by for the win in the final few yards. Jason Keith in his return to the sprint ranks comes home in very fine third position. Robbie Standridge in his first trip this season to SFCR commands the fourth spot and Tim Montgomery completes the top five. Hurley, Boyd, Standridge and Sheppard won the heats. Hurley took the dash and Rod Crabdree won the B-Main.

The A-Modified Division rand for a top prize of $1000. In true “outlaw” fashion The Festus Flyer, Rusty Griffaw came to town with guns blazing. Not a regular campaigner at St Francois County Raceway, Griffaw came in and had his hands full with Brent Thompson, Mike Abney, Bill, Nickelson and Matt Eaton. Nickelson would eventually drop out of the top five and finish sixth. In the early stages of the event Thompson and Griffaw pulled away from the field. Jeff Asher, Abney and Nickelson pushign for position three through five. Caution showed for Kent Nations as he hit the wall. He would continue and come in for a respectful seventh place finish. This moved Matt Eaton and Jeremy Greenwalt up to contend for the win. The laps clicked off from a Lap 9 restart and won in strong fashion. Thompson, Eaton, Asher and Greenwalt filled in the top five. Thompson, Asher, and Abney won their heats. Thompson claims the dash.

Our Pure Street Division found the top point leaders starting on the front row. Jimmy Farris and Dusty Homan. The Homanator, a two time winner this season started outside. Farris having not won in 2011 had the opportunity with his best starting spot of the season. These two along with Chris Boyd, Jason Neel and Kenny Kennedy would string out quickly for the run to the finish. However, Boyd would spin his mount before a lap was completed and had to restart from the rear. Mike Williams in his mount brought out the first caution. On this restart Robbie Williams was in the top five and looking for his second win of the season. He would later spin and finish eighth. Kennedy brought out the cautuion for a flat tirew on his car. Lap 10 found Mike Williams again the cause for a yellow. This was his second and he would finish the event in the pit area. As the event was unfolding and the issues for cautions were realized, a very quiet run for the front was coming from Charlie Savage. Savage started in the ninth spot on the grid and was challenging for the win in the final few laps. Savage’s car washed out in turn one on more than lap. This allowed Farris the advantage he needed to secure the win. Farris and Homan won their respective heats.

The B-Modified Division found a familiar face in the winners circle. But it has been lots of races sice he was here. Shannon Blair driving his cousin Brian’s machine took top honors. Blair, who had missed most of last season due to a automobile accident, has made full circle by returning to the cockpit of a race and now a win. It was not an easy win as he had lots of pressure from the start from Pole sitte Greg Swearingim, John Bohn and Michael Savage. Early caution on Lap 2 for Tom Davis bunched up the field. The green came out only to see the yellow wave again. Michael Savage jumped the start and had to go to the back of the pack. By this time Kyle Stolzer found a way to get into the mix for the win. Bohn was applying pressure and had actually made a run for the top spot only to have the yelloow wave again for the spinning car of Josh Reed. After dodging the bullet, Blair had to hang on for the win. Bohn made his efforts payoff for a second place run. Stolzer held on for third. Randy Forster takes a place in the top five by finishing fourth. Eddie Gross having another great run complete the top five. Swaeringim, Blair and Stolzer claimed heat honor.

Next Sarturday, June 18, the Midwest Open Wheel Association Sprint Cars will run in addition to our regular classes of A & B Modified and Pure Street. Gates open at 4:00. Hot Laps at 6:00. Qualifying for the sprints will follow. Racing to get underway about 7:00.
