(Warrensburg) Just shy of half way into the Cliff Harris Warrensburg Ford/Warrensburg Chrysler Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) 2011 season, championship point battles for the ‘mighty’ modifieds, ULMA late models, street stocks, and b-modifieds are starting to tell the story of this year’s prospective champions. Weekly points-chasing drivers and many others will again converge on CMS this Saturday night as the championship season continues during 98.5 FM ‘The Bar’ Night at the Races!

Only two weeks remain before the 8th Annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl Race, which features a $5,000-to-win/$1,000-to-start modified race and a $1,500-to-win ULMA late model race, which is also part of the ULMA Triple Crown Shootout. All drivers are welcome to attend the special event and those drivers that have competed at least twice at CMS in a regular weekly show (not including May special) will feel the benefit of having a reduced race entry fee during the BBQ Bowl weekend of events. Complete BBQ Bowl information is on the main page of the CMS website at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.

Terry Schultz of Sedalia, Missouri leads one of the toughest drivers’ rosters of modified racers heading into this Saturday as he took over at the top of the standings after last week’s action. Schultz finished a very strong third place behind Dustin Boney and Jason Thompson, which vaulted him to the top after previous point leader Jason Bodenhamer, was unable to finish the main event. Schultz was last crowned champion at the speedway back in 1998 and 1999 in the street stock division, in which he claimed 18 feature wins over the two-year period. The Sedalia driver has knocked on the door before in the modified standings but has come up shy on a couple occasions for the modified championship. This could be the year he gets it done; however, there are plenty of drivers who have other things on their minds including the rest of the top five in the standings, which includes Bodenhamer, Thompson, Dean Wille, and David Ralph. Seeburg Mufflers, The Cornerstone Agency, Beebe Heating and Air Conditioning Inc., and Dale’s Towing are sponsors of this year’s modified races.

ULMA Late Model competition at CMS continues to be highly competitive despite struggling car counts, but as one fan recently stated, “I wouldn’t have known there were only twelve cars on hand with the competition and racing I witnessed there.” We couldn’t agree more, the CMS contingent of ULMA competitors is second to none with no less than six of the top ten in the CMS standings also among the overall top ten with the ULMA! In seven races contested this season, six different drivers have visited victory lane with current track point’s leader Jason Bodenhamer, as the only repeat winner. Bodenhamer of Centerview, Missouri now leads Jon Binning, Brett Wood, Kevin Coyne and Chad Clancy heading into this Saturday. ULMA racing at CMS is brought to you by All American Auto Car & Truck Sales of Clinton, B & D Transmission, Rod End Supply, and Bodee’s Race Bodies.

Low car counts are certainly not the case with the CMS street stocks as the class continues to hold its own with a healthy field of cars and close racing. Three-time feature winner Brian Ziegler, of Bates City, Missouri is the current point leader in the class, which is sponsored this year by Brooks Auto L.L.C., Expressways Food Shop and Convenience Store, and Eickleberry Concrete. Coupled with his three wins and consistent finishes, Ziegler has sent a strong message to his peers as the season approaches the half-way point that he is the man to beat. Former leader Michael Mullins is still within striking distance of the top after he ended a run of bad luck with a solid finish last weekend. Nate Barnes has been a model of consistency this season and it is his consistency that has allowed the Kearney, Missouri driver to move into third place in the standings. Two veterans of the street stocks sit tied for fourth as Scott Dukes and Chad Eickleberry are well within reach of ‘Ziggy’ as there is plenty of time to seal the deal.

Last year, I nicknamed Brad Smith the “B-mod Dominator” but I might have spoken to soon because this year it has been all Jacob Ebert. The Oak Grove, Missouri youngster now has six CMS feature wins on the season and four wins in a row! It seems as though it doesn’t matter where Ebert starts, he finds his way to the front. Former champion Ethan Isaacs sits in the second spot with a surging Jason Billups in third; Bobby Raybourn and Trent Deadmon round out the top five. There are a number of drivers capable of beating Ebert sitting just outside the top five and when they race they are certainly a threat at taking home the win, these drivers include Lucas Isaacs, Nic Bennett, and Smith. Brooks Auto L.L.C. presents the b-modified racing at the track this season at CMS.
