Springfield RacewaySpringfield,Mo.-With over 90 raceteams in the pits, The Mid-Season Championships were held Sat night at the Quick-Quarter of the SpringfieldRaceway as another outstanding night of action was held.

After very intense qualifying heats to secure their spots in the feature, the fields were set for the 6 feature events.

In Budweiser USRA RHS Modified action, current point leader Jackie Dalton and Erik Maggard brought the field to the green flag with Maggard rim-riding the top groove to take the opening lead with Dalton going to the hub in chase.Last weeks winner Mitch Keeter,Brian Green,Bobby Pearish,Kyle Slagle all battling 2-3 wide. With Maggard setting a blistering pace, Dalton kept trying to make the low groove stick. Coming upon lapped traffic, Dalton had to cut the car hard towards the infield breaking a tie-rod and ending his night.Up front Keeter was making alot of ground up and the duo of Maggard and Keeter showed everyone how to run Springfield top and bottom side-by-side. Back in the pack, LateModel Standout Terry Phillips was picking his way to the front pack after starting tonight 12th in the field. With the lead being swaped back and forth between Keeter and Maggard, Phillips began his charge to the lead duo with 5 laps left.At the finish it was Keeter claiming the win by half a car length as Maggard swung to the extreme top of the quarter Mile Oval in a near photo finish.Keeter the defending A-Mod champion claimed his second straight win as Maggard,Phillips,Brian Green and Bobby Pearish completed a very action packed top 5.Phillips would be dropped to the bottom of the standings after tech for not having a rev-limiting chip. This moved hard charging Kyle slagle to the top 5. Dalton was able to claim the Mid-season title despite a 17th place finish.

In Reliable Chevrolet SportMods action, it was 3 drivers trying to claim the title as Bobby Maggard Jr,Mike Hailman and JC Morton all within 7 points of each other. Maggard Jr and Hailman secured their spots for the front row as Morton started in row 2.At the drop of the green flag, Maggard Jr jumped to the early lead with Morton and Hailman side by side. With Maggard setting a fast pace,Morton began to close-up the gap and applied pressure. On lap 10,Morton grabbed the lead with Maggard trying to keep him in sight as the Mid-Season Title was still in Morton’s grasp. Back in the pack,Veteran Scott Drake who started 9th tonight was challanging to the front pack as the top 10 cars were tight. Points contender Hailman started to fall back during the green flag run as Gary Rodocker was moving closer to the leaders. Morton would be able to withstand 2 restarts to grab the win along with the Reliable Chevrolet 602 Crate Bonus money as Maggard Jr., a fast-moving Scott Drake. Hailman and Gary Rodocker claimed the top 5 as 14 of the 18 starters finished on the lead lap.

The Casey’s General Stores Midwest Modz class had a hot time tonight as the 22 car field took the green with point leader Trevor Drake grabbing the opening lead with Sam Petty Close behind.Several cautions plagged the field tonight but when the track was Green, it was great racing between the front runners.A scary time for all happened on lap 5 when racing in the pack,Jesse Parton’s Fuel Cell busted open causing an intensive fuel fire in turns 1&2. All drivers were alright, as safety crews were on the scene quickly. After a final restart,Drake was leadnig the field to the last lap when Sam Petty who had won Friday Night at Midway went to the extreme top of the track and pulled even with point leader Drake.Drake would get the win by less than a car length with Petty,a fast moving Terry Williams, Matthew Thulin and Randy Belk completing the top 5.

With the track adjusting the Streetstock class rear-end percentage rule, a strong field of cars checked in to try to haly Bryan Tillman’s perfect feature streak. At the drop of the Green,Tillman took the lead with Tim Petty moving to the top groove.Brad Gideon moved to the middle groove and gave chase early. The Yellow waved on lap 5 as Caleb Chapman spun.On the restart, Burl Woods had charged from 7th to challange Tillman as the duo went side by side.Woods grabbed the lead on lap 8 as Tillman shot to the bottom of the track to try and regain the lead.In turn 3,Tillman spun bringing out the yellow. With woods in front and Gideon following ,Woods took advantage on the restart and grabbed his first SpringfieldRaceway win as a 3 wide battle for second had the crowd standing.Tillman rallied to grab second place with Gideon,Petty and Steve Morton completing the top 5.

The Legend Cars again showed why they are beconming a fan favorite with 3 to 4 wide racing.Point leader Dave Comer jumped to the early lead with Jay Reynolds following.Points runner-up Park Jones had a rough night after problems in his heat race forced him to give up his front row starting spot and an incident on the opening lap in turn 3 forced him to the pits.On the restart,Comer found Wayne Johnston to his outside while Reynolds was making it 3 wide.THis lasted until lap 6 when Johnston took the top spot as 2 young guns Tyler Horton and Colt Pruente were coming quickly through the field as defending champion Justin Comer who started 19th tonight was quietly coming through the field.Comer regained the lead after a spirited battle on lap 11 and held off Johnston’s last lap efforts to secure the win along with the Mid-Season Title.Johnston, Justin Comer, Tyler Horton and Pruente completed the top 5.

In Pepsi PureStock Action, point leader Jack Hamer took the opening lead and never looked back in a wild affair this evening as a few crashes and tight racing highlighted the feature.Following the Mid-Season Champion to the line was James Redus, Jeremy Thulin, Bret Testerman and Philip Schloesser.

SpringfieldRaceway will be back in Action on Sat July 23rd with the Reliable Chevrolet SportMod $400 to win feature event.Action will also feature the high-horsepower of the USRA Modifieds,StreetStocks,Midwest Modz,Legends and PureStocks as the 2nd half of the season will begin. All classes will draw for starting spots and set the field by passing points. The sportMods will have the top 8 passing point cars redraw for their starting spot.
