ULMA Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce drivers kicked off the second half of the points-earning season last weekend and when the checkered flags flew it was Rylan Long picking up his association-leading sixth victory of the year at Lucas Oil Speedway; Steve Clancy kept racking up the wins with his third overall and second-consecutive victory at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS); and Tommy Cordray visited victory lane for the first time in 2011 with a win during the special fair-week events at Scotland County Speedway. Cordray was the 15th different ULMA member driver to race to victory lane this season.

One week after claiming the biggest ULMA winning payout of the year, Steve Clancy continued his winning ways by beating Brett Wood in an intense main event that saw Wood lead a large portion of the race. ULMA point’s leader Jason Bodenhamer was also in the mix throughout the entire distance. Clancy had the low line figured out, especially coming off turn two where he made the winning pass. Wood was flying around the high side of the track but came up just short in his bid for another ULMA win. Steve’s Brother, Chad, looked strong in his best-ever ULMA finish in third. Chad is a former Grand National champion who will be a force to be reckoned with the remainder of the year in ULMA competition. Bodenhamer came away with a fourth-place run with Jon Binning fifth. Jeremy Watts scored his best-ever finish as well by coming away with sixth-place, Kevin Coyne was seventh, Alan Westling eighth, and Gage Wineland tenth. Wineland became the youngest-ever late model driver to win a race at CMS when he topped Bodenhamer and Steve Clancy in an early evening heat race at the age of 15. There were 13 cars on hand with 11 drivers shown as ULMA members. The track’s official web site is www.centralmissourispeedway.net. ULMA has been informed by CMS that any new drivers wishing to compete at CMS for the remainder of the year will pay a half-priced registration fee of $30.

According to Lucas Oil Speedway’s latest press release, “Chris Hawkins from Neosho, Missouri led the field to the green flag from his pole starting position [in the main event]. Hawkins would fall to an eighth place finish before the checkers. Rylan Long finished fifth in his heat and started the feature from the sixth starting spot. Rylan drove a quick line around the speedway and took the checkers in front of the field with limited rear brakes. Tommy Cordray came in second with Larry Jones in third. Jamie Ragland charged through the field from the fourteenth starting position to finish fourth, gaining ten positions in the 20 lap feature.” Other top tier finishers included Andy Kennedy 5th, Chris Morelock 6th, Hawkins 8th, R.D. Peterson 9th and Jeff Schlup 10th. There were 15 drivers on hand, of which 11 were ULMA members. The speedway hosts a special event this weekend and will not be competing ULMA late models. Weekly race action returns on Saturday, July 23, for complete event and schedule details visit the speedway on line at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Although Scotland County Speedway did not compete on their traditional Saturday night, they did hold a weekly event; however, it took place last Thursday evening during the county fair. There were 9 late models on hand with five of them being ULMA member drivers. Tommy Cordray drove to his first ULMA-sanctioned victory of the season by holding off Justin Jennings fro the triumph. Jake Griffin, a former winner at the speedway came away with a fifth-place finish with Danny Lorton eighth and Dave Miller ninth in the final rundown. The track returns to Saturday action this weekend, for complete details and schedule of events visit www.scotlandcountyspeedway.com.

At press time results from Callaway Raceway were not available. This week’s ULMA point standings do not include results from Callaway.
