Steve Clancy and Tommy Cordray each took ULMA Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce wins during last week’s sanctioned competition to back up their wins from the previous weekend of racing.  Clancy secured his fourth overall victory and third in a row at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) while Cordray scored another win at Scotland County Speedway.  Jake Griffin recorded the highest ULMA member driver finish at Callaway Raceway last Friday with a second-place showing.  Lucas Oil Speedway did not run ULMA late models last Saturday but returns to action this weekend as all four tracks will be running weekly programs.

In addition to all weekly tracks running this weekend, 24 Raceway in Moberly will also host another ULMA-sanctioned points-earning event this Sunday, July 24th with what is being billed as the track’s “1st Annual Summer Nationals” with ULMA late models plus the weekly classes.  Visit www.24racewayinmoberly.com for complete details.  This makes five sanctioned races for the ULMA Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce drivers this weekend.

At CMS, car counts have not been what many expected them to be; however, the racing has been anything but a downer as many CMS regulars have made their way into the top 20 in the overall standings.  Steve Clancy’s third-consecutive feature race victory has allowed him to creep into the top five in the championship standings as he now sits in fifth position.  Clancy has been a dominant force in recent weeks mastering the low side of the track in his Nee Cee Motors Rayburn.  Jason Bodenhamer recorded another strong finish in the second position and holds onto the overall ULMA point’s lead heading into this week.  Non-ULMA member Lane Ehlert was third last week at CMS with Jon Binning, Chad Clancy, and Dave Mosley inside the top six.  Alan Westling, Brett Wood, Bob Test, Trace Westling and Kevin Coyne were also present among 10 members out of 12 cars.  Racing continues this Saturday at CMS and ULMA has been informed the track will be starting its program one hour late due to excessive heat.  Gates will open at 5:30 with hot laps at 8 and racing at 8:30.  The track’s official web site is www.centralmissourispeedway.net.  CMS has lowered its registration fee for new drivers to $30.

This Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway we’ll find out if Rylan Long can continue to rack up wins and climb the ULMA standings, in which if he has any shot at the title he will need to hit at least 15 starts on the year, the amount of “best of” starts it will take to win the championship.  If Long continues racking up wins he will vault to the lead of the standings if/when he hits 15 starts, unless other competitors continue to improve their finishes while at the same time recording finishes better than that of Long.  Tommy Cordray will no doubt be one driver to challenge Long when racing resumes at the speedway this weekend.  Chris Hawkins, Larry Jones, and Christopher Morelock are also expected to challenge Long during the remaining events.  The track has a special promotional deal this weekend when the cost for “admission is (4) non-perishable food items, that’s right FREE admission with your donation to the Ozarks Food Harvest!  The Ozarks Food Harvest will be on hand accepting the donations and granting admission to KTTS Night at the races.”  For more information, check out the speedway’s official website at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

Tommy Cordray earned his second-consecutive victory at Scotland County Speedway last Saturday night and second ULMA win in the process and as a result now resides in second in the overall ULMA standings; the highest position the Browning, Missouri driver has ever been in since racing with ULMA.  Jake Griffin and Danny Lorton were second and third among four cars present.  The track returns to action again this weekend, for complete details and schedule of events visit www.scotlandcountyspeedway.com.  As previously mentioned, Griffin had the highest ULMA finish last Friday at Callaway Raceway with 15 cars present.   Chris Cox, Bob Test, Trace Westling, Zeke Langley, and Jim Stafford also came away with top ten finishes last week.  Engines fire up once again this Friday at the raceway, be sure to logo on www.callawayraceways.com for race information.
