(BRIGHT, INDIANA) Fresh off his runner-up championship effort on the grueling UMP DIRTcar Summer Nationals tour, Scott James returned to action on Saturday, July 23 at the Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky and recorded his third victory of 2011 in thrilling fashion! Scott timed in fifth fastest overall during the qualifying session at the 1/2-mile, Cincinnati-area venue and later won his heat race. After rolling off from the outside of the front row in the unsanctioned ‘North/South 100’ tune-up race, Scott and Darrell Lanigan traded paint and swapped the lead several times during the 50-lap main event.

With the fans up on their feet for the waning laps, the Bright, Indiana native finally disposed of Lanigan on lap 45, but the race was far from over. In heavy lapped traffic on the final circuit, Lanigan pulled alongside James coming out of turn four, but Scott was able to push a lapped car across the checkers to nip Lanigan at the line to record the $5,000 win. The collision with the lapped car at the finish line turned Scott into the frontstretch wall after the race, but the #81 Riggs Motorsports team was still able to celebrate their victory over Lanigan, Mike Jewell, John Gill, and Brad Neat. Complete results from Florence can be accessed online at www.florencespeedway.com.

“Wow, what a race,” simply stated James this week via telephone. “Me and (Darrell) Lanigan raced real hard for the win and I had a blast out there. I have to thank my crew – Shane, Jeremy, and Mike – for all of their hard work in the heat. Our car was really good and I am really looking forward to the upcoming North/South 100. I think we have a shot at that $50,000 and we are going to make every effort to bring our best piece to Florence in a couple of weeks. I have to dedicate the win on Saturday night to my good friend Tommy, who lost his wife Anita Collini to cancer a few weeks back.”

Following the big win, Scott will return to the Florence Speedway in Union, Kentucky this Saturday night, July 30. Scott plans to run his back-up car at the King family complex this weekend after making some changes to it following the completion of the UMP Summer Nationals. A $1,500 winner’s check will be on the line for the #81 team on Saturday. Additional information can be viewed by clicking on www.florencespeedway.com.
