Saturday hosted drag boat racing by day and dirt track racing by night. Qualifying rounds for the Lucas Oil Drag Boat Racing Series began first thing Saturday morning. During Saturday’s opening ceremonies the Pomme de Terre Lake Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting at the starting line. In the late afternoon more fans filled the facility to enjoy the Lucas Oil MLRA and the Pitts Home A-Modified’s in the Summer Shootout presented by Buffalo Prairie Dental. In addition to the great on track racing, Big Foot carried the America Flag during the National Anthem and teased the fans with a quick jump on the infield of the Speedway. During intermission Big Foot returned to the track for a full show.

Thirty nine Lucas Oil MLRA late models came out for a shot at the $3,000 to win Summer Shoot Out. Brad Looney visited victory lane for the third time this season with the MLRA and for the first time ever at Lucas Oil Speedway. “Everything just kind of worked out tonight,” said Looney following the race. “This is such a nice facility. What Lucas Oil does is just amazing. To be a part of it, and to win it with these boat races going on is really good,” added Looney. This was his first $3,000 win in a chassis he built a couple of years ago. Looney sat on the pole, but it was Justin Wells who jumped out to an early advantage. Wells led until just past lap 20 when Looney got around him. Jesse Stovall raced from ninth to finish second in the 40 lap feature.

In the Pitts Homes A-Modified’s twenty six cars checked into the pits. Johnny Fennewald was a force all night. Fennewald of Appleton City, MO won his heat race and started on the pole of the feature. Fennewald held onto the first position until the checkers waved. Justin Folk of Iola, KS started in fifth and worked his way to a second place finish.
