Oklahoma’s Shane Stewart made it back to back wins by winning the 21stAnnual Arnold Motor Supply 360 Knoxville Nationals. The win came in the Lucas Oil ASCS sanctioned event at the Knoxville Raceway on Saturday, August 6. It was his third win in this event.

In victory lane, he noted this seemed like the slowest 25-lap race he’d ever run here, as he knew his competitors were knocking on his door the whole time.

As severe weather threatened in the west, when the race went green, the red flag quickly came out for Dustin Selvage, who flipped in turn one and sent his fuel tank over the fence. At the complete restart, Stewart jumped out to the lead, but the red flag returned at lap three when Derek Hagar hit the inside berm in turn one and flipped.

When the race resumed, Stewart continued to lead, coming to lapped trafficat the 11th circuit. That’s when Sammy Swindell began to close, and justwhen it looked like he might make his move, the yellow flag returned for aspun Clint Garner in turn one.

From there, Stewart continued to hold his lead on a clear race track, coming back into lapped traffic at the 20th circuit. A rare traffic bobble by Swindell allowed Tim Shaffer to steal second with only a few laps to go. Billy Alley was fourth and Davey Heskin fifth.

Clint Garner of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, won an exciting B-Main by a narrow margin. Henry Van Dam of Enumclaw, Washington, won the C-Main. Joe Beaver of Knoxville, Iowa, won the D-Main. Ned Powers of Belle Fourche, South Dakota, won the E-Main.

Kevin Swindell Beats All Stars at Knoxville!

by Bill Wright

KNOXVILLE RACEWAY, Knoxville, IA, August 6, 2011 – Kevin Swindell scored his second win of the season, and the second win of his career at the Knoxville Raceway Saturday night.  The event was sanctioned by the All Star Circuit of Champions.  The Rookie of the Year candidate led every lap and his win was worth $5,000.

Brian Brown, returning from a scary crash on Friday night, suffered damage after contact with Jason Johnson before a lap could be completed in the 20-lap feature.  Brown retired at tha point.  Swindell started in the second row, but was able to use the low groove to shoot by front row starters, Tyler Walker and quick-timer, Daryn Pittman, when the green flap dropped.

By lap five, Swindell had a six car length lead over Pittman, who was followed by Knoxville Raceway point leader, Danny Lasoski, who started ninth.  With six laps in the books, ninth running, Sammy Swindell, spun on the backstretch with a flat tire and went pitside.

The restart saw Kevin Swindell leading Walker, Lasoski, Pittman and Terry McCarl.  McCarl moved by Pittman on lap eight, but Tim Shaffer was on the move, up from his starting spot outside of row five.  He took fifth on lap nine and was fourth by the mid-way point.

Hard-charger, Mark Dobmeier came from row ten to enter the top five by busting the cushion on lap twelve.  Young Swindell maintained his lead despite a close call with the lapped machine of Bud Kaeding.  Walker held onto second, ahead of Lasoski, Shaffer and Dobmeier.

Kevin spoke in Victory Lane about his close call in traffic.  “Everything was going fine, and Bud and Robby (Wolfgang) were running the top.  They got together, and I knew it would be trouble.  Bud came down the track and knocked the air out for me.  I just hoped no one behind me was close.  I was trying not to miss the bottom, and that time I did.”

McCarl, Dale Blaney, Dusty Zomer, Rager Phillips and Davey Heskin (from 24th) rounded out the top ten.  Ian Madsen won his heat but scratched for the rest of the night with a blown motor.  Shaffer, Brown and Zomer also won heats.  Mike Moore picked up a win in the C main, Walker won the Dash and Austin McCarl took the B.

Sunday night, Knoxville Raceway hosts the USAC Non-wing Knoxville Nationals.  They will be joined by the 305’s.  Hot laps are scheduled for 6:45 p.m.
