ULMA - United Late Model AssociationQuincy, Illinois (08/10/11) – On the heels of four wins in the ULMA Late Model Series and several top five finishes, 12 year-old, Jake Griffin has taken over the top spot in the tour standings.

When the latest edition of the ULMA points were released last week, history was made as Jake Griffin was shown as the point’s leader, which marked the youngest driver to ever lead the standings. He currently leads the latest points over Jason Bodenhammer, Steve Clancy, Tommy Cordray, and Brett Wood. Griffin also continues to lead the ULMA Late Model track points at Callaway Raceway (Fulton, Missouri) and Scotland County Speedway (Memphis, Missouri)

Most people would think that the youngster would feel a great deal of pressure to contend for a national championship and to have a chance to be the youngest driver to ever win a Late Model national championship, but Jake comments, “There is really no pressure on me. I mean I’m just 12 years old so people don’t expect much out of me. However, I guess it’s more pressure on my competitors because they’ve been racing longer than I have and everybody expects them to beat me, so I think they (other drivers) feel a lot more pressure than I do.”
Last weekend the team entered a pair of shows. Saturday night found the team at Scotland County Speedway (Memphis, Missouri) for a night of doubleheader racing action between the ULMA Late Model Series and the UMP Open Wheel Modified division. It would be another great point’s night for Jake in the ULMA Late Model division as he powered his #08 Bob Pierce Chassis to a third place finish in the feature. However his luck in the UMP Open Wheel Modified division would not be as good as a leaking head gasket would bring his night to an end before the green flag ever dropped on the feature. The upcoming weekend, August 11th-13th, will see the team return to Callaway Raceway on Friday night before traveling to Scotland County Speedway on Saturday night, and then closing out the weekend on Sunday night at Quincy Raceway.
