This weekend will be another busy one for the Lucas Oil MLRA as the series has two stops planned. Saturday will be a makeup race from May at Thunder Hill Speedway in Mayetta, KS. Sunday the series will close out the 2011 Missouri State Fair with the annual stop at the historic half mile speedway. Both shows will pay the winner $3,000.

For the 3/8th mile track in Mayetta, KS it’s been a labor of love for the Conkwright family. Mike, Dave and their father Dean all partnered to purchase the Speedway in August of 2009. They gave the facility a complete facelift and helped out the track tremendously too. “We’ve almost completed our new suite tower. We put 280 loads of clay on the track and have done a lot of general maintenance,” said Mike Conkwright. The speedway is 100 feet wide all the way around, with 10 degrees of banking on the straightaways and 18 degrees of bank in the corners. “Our racing was pretty good last year with two and three wide racing. This year we got rid of the progressive banking, and our weekly classes have consistently raced four and five wide.” This will be the first of two Lucas Oil MLRA weekends at the Conkwright’s facility. Thunder on the Hill III will take place the first weekend in October.

Sunday action will move to the Missouri State Fair Speedway in Sedalia, MO. Promoter Clint Brown has always loved the half mile Speedway in his hometown. “Whether working or watching I’ve attended the races there my entire life,” said Brown. He got involved in the promotion of the fair races in 2005 and brought the Lucas Oil MLRA in to race in 2006. Also competing this weekend will be the ASCS Warrior Region Sprint Cars and unsanctioned A Modifieds. “Kelly Boen’s win last season was kind of a change. The prior five seasons, Terry Phillips and John Anderson were the only two late model winners at the fair.” Boen is uncertain, but hopes to run with the Lucas Oil MLRA this weekend. Both Phillips and Anderson are each looking for their first late model special event wins of the season.
