As it has nearly every year, the Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce looks as though it will come down to the final points-earning events this season. During last weekend’s action, both Jake Griffin and Jason Bodenhamer, first and second in the standings so far, posted additional victories to add to their “15 best” of the year. Griffin got his win at Memphis Missouri’s Scotland County Speedway while Bodenhamer bested several of his peers at Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. Several ULMA tracks have reduced or removed track registration fees for their remaining events, details follow in each track’s portion of this press release.

After experiencing several cancelled events due to Mother Nature, Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri held a night of racing last Friday night with seventeen late model competitors on hand. Although non-member Brandon Imhoff won the event, several ULMA –supporting drivers registered strong finishes at the track including Justin Russell in second, Griffin, who is the track point’s leader in third, Trace Westling in fifth, Zeke Langley sixth, Chris Cox seventh, Alan Westling eighth, James Stafford ninth, and Gage Wineland tenth. Eleven of the drivers on hand were ULMA members. Beginning this weekend until the end of the season the track registration fee at Callaway is just $10. Remaining ULMA points-earning events at the track include August 26th, September 2nd, and September 9th. According to the track’s website at www.callawayraceways.com, September 16 and another night are pending. If the track decides to run on these nights and ULMA late models are competing, ULMA will sanction the events as points-earning races.

Last Saturday night at Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Missouri Jake Griffin registered his sixth win of the year, which ties him for the second most amount of wins this year with Steve Clancy and just one victory behind Rylan Long who has rung the bell seven times this year. Griffin beat Justin Jennings and Danny Lorton to the line for the win. ULMA recently learned that late models will not return to the track next season, but instead will move to Moberly, Missouri’s 24 Raceway, where they will compete on Saturday nights. For the remaining events at Scotland County Speedway, there will be no track registration fee. Rick Girard is the promoter at both facilities and made the announcement at a recent drivers meeting. For the remainder of the year, Scotland County has announced the following schedule of events: championship track points will end on September 3rd. The track will not be racing on September 10th due to the Boone Nationals. ULMA will award points during the following races: Saturday August 27th, Saturday September 3rd, Saturday September 17th, Saturday September 24th, and Friday September 30th. For detailed information visit the track’s official website by logging on to the track’s website at www.scotlandcountyspeedway.com.

The race of the weekend had to be the 20-lap main event at the Lucas Oil Speedway where a visiting Jason Bodenhamer drove to his fifth win of the season by edging out Larry Jones in a classic race that featured side-by-side action during the closing laps. Bodenhamer bided his time around the 3/8th-mile track and used a high-side maneuver off of turn two on the final lap to seal the deal. According to the track’s post-race press release, “Rylan Long started the feature back in the 15th spot and worked his way through the field lap-by-lap for a top-three finish. Bob Test from Jefferson City, MO started and finished in fourth with Marionville, Missouri’s Phil Edmondson in fifth.” Other strong ULMA finishes were posted by Chris Hawkins in sixth, Jason Russell seventh, Chris Cox eighth, R.D. Peterson ninth and former track champion Tommy Cordray in tenth. There was a solid field of 20 competitors on hand with 17 ULMA member drivers present. The track hosts its fan appreciation night this Saturday. Remaining ULMA-sanctioned races include Saturday August 27th and Saturday September 3rd. For all your Lucas Oil Speedway information visit the track on the web at www.lucasoilspeedway.com.

ULMA’s other Saturday night track, Central Missouri Speedway was rained out last weekend but the track returns to action this Saturday, August 27th as the chase for the track championship and ULMA points continues. Jason Bodenhamer is the track points leader at the track with his Brother-in-Law Brett Wood second and Kevin Coyne third. The field of late models at CMS has been highly competitive this season. Remaining events include this Saturday, Saturday September 3rd, Saturday September 10th and Saturday October 1st. Beginning this weekend, the track has waived its registration fee for the rest of the season and invites all competitors to give CMS a shot before it closes its doors at the end of the season as promoters Earl and Susan Walls will begin their retirement after 18 years of operating the speedway. Visit the track’s website at www.centralmissourispeedway.net for complete information and remaining event details.

ULMA would like to congratulate Kevin Coyne, Jon Binning, and Bob King for running their ULMA cars at the recent Missouri State Fair Championships in Sedalia and making the main event! Jason Bodenhamer and Jason Sivils also competed in open late models at the race. Coyne was the highest finishing driver as he registered an eighth-place finish.

ULMA is monitoring the situation at Central Missouri Speedway closely as the association continues its quest to seek out a track operating closer to the metro area. With the projected closure of CMS next season, drivers who compete at the track and teams based out of the greater Kansas City area will need a place to race next year and ULMA is committed to trying to secure such a track for the drivers.

The Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce ULMA point’s-earning season runs through October with the last two races taking place on Saturday, October 1st at CMS and Sunday, October 2nd at 24 Raceway in Moberly. Both races will feature additional purse money! At CMS, a silent auction will be held Labor Day weekend with donated items by drivers up for bid for the fans. Track Announcer Sam Stoecklin is accepting donations at the track for the auction. All money earned will be added to the October 1st CMS late model purse. The final ULMA race of the year at Moberly will see the winner take home $1,000 for the victory!
