September 16th marked the final points night for open wheel racing at Valley Speedway, and night one of the Weld Family Memorial race weekend. Four classes were on hand for the nights event. Heat races set up the lineups for the feature events.

The first feature to hit the track was the Midwest Mod Lite division. Leading the field to the green was Jeff Raffurty and to his outside Greg Nellis. Near the halfway point of the race rain began to fall for a short time and the race was stopped. Once the rain stopped the track was shining and it looked like the night may be a wash. It looked like a tall feat to get the track back in shape to finish out the night. That’s when the super heroes in the Midwest Mod LIte division sprung into action. The drivers divided into two groups and began to pack the track in. After several laps the track came back into shape and the Midwest Mod Lite division emerged as a winner by saving the night! The Mod Lites started back up and finished out their feature with Dillon Raffurty taking the win followed by Nellis, Jeff Raffurty , David Raffurty and Bonnel.

As the race progressed Black was able to work his way up to the second spot behind Walker, who was setting a blistering pace. Black was able to match Walker’s pace and before long both cars were locked in one of the best battles of the year, with lap times for non wing racing in the 13 second range (that’s fast for nonwing). Black was able to reach Walker and was able to make the pass. Walker kept Black in check for the remainder of the race as they carved through lapped traffic. Black took the win followed by Walker, Moore, Helm and Frank Brown. Brown would take the season crown for the year end points standings.

Saturday September 17th 2011 marked the second night of the Weld Family Memorial weekend. The second night once again brought out several top drivers from the area. The night started off with exciting heat race action. After intermission the night kicked off with the first feature of the night, the Amod B feature. The top six cars advanced to the A feature. Top six included Westerhold, Schafman, Benedict, Hoover, King and Eaton.
The first A feature of the night saw the Dirt Demon division take the track. Leading the field to the green was Danny Anders and the 1J of Jessica Lane. Anders would build a comfortable lead but during the closing laps once again Jason Smith would find another gear and fight his way from the back of the pack to the front. When the checkers flew Smith would take the win followed by Anders and Nolker.

The second feature of the night was the always exciting Bmod feature. The veteran Gene Claxton and the Young Gun Jacob Ebert would lead the pack to the green. Ebert would lead early , however as the race progressed lapped cars would play a factor. Mr. Consistent and cool Brad Smith would pick his lines on the track and find his way to the lead. Smith would build and advantage out front but the pack behind his was waiting for the slightest mistake. When the checkers came out Smith would take the win followed by Claxton who drove a smart and consistent race. Third went to the hard charger to the night, Brian Montgomery, who found himself in the back of the pack after a early race mishap, but drove the wheels off the car to finish third. Fourth went to Ebert , who got tangled with a lapped car on the closing laps, but made a terrific save to finish strong. Scotty Martin rounded out the top five.

Up third was the street stock division. Hot rod Brian Ziegler and the veteran of the Valley Larry McCrackin would lead the field to the green. Ziegler would lead the first lap and would not look back, which was a good thing for him as cautions plagued the field. Ruff who drove a strong race was able to take a strong second place finish. Ruff almost took the win last week, but dropped out with a mechanical failure. Third went to Joey Stephens, who has had a break out year in the street stock class. Fourth went to crowd favorite Jerry Schmidt. Rounding out the top five was Spencer Stephens. When the checkers flew Ward came across the finish every which way but straight and McCrackin came across on his top. Both drivers were okay, and McCrackin drove back to the pits!

The final feature of the night to close out the successful Weld Family Memorial weekend was the Amod feature. Lightning started to light up the sky as the amod went out to light up the Valley Speedway. Leading the field to the green was The King Of Lakeside Karrick on the pole with the King of the Valley Setzer to his outside. Early in the race Setzer was able to get into the lead, with a freight train of cars to his rear. Cars were running two and three wide and racing was close throughout the field. Near the halfway point of the race the caution flew for a wreck in turn four, which took out multiple drivers who were in the hunt for the top spot, which included Lyle, Bray, and Benedict. When the dust settled Setzer would take the win followed by, Karrick, Marrant, Richards and Scotty Martin.
