The 2011 Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce ULMA season championship is nearing completion after 22 weeks of sanctioned action. Just three more points-earning opportunities remain over the next two weekends for drivers to accumulate points, including this Saturday’s event at 24 Raceway in Moberly, Missouri. Unfortunately, last week’s lone-scheduled event at 24 Raceway was washed out just before racing was set to hit the track. The rainout left drivers just three more chances to earn ULMA points this season. Remaining races include this Saturday’s race at 24 Raceway; Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) for $800 to win October 1st; and 24 Raceway in Moberly for $1,000 to win October 2nd.

The stage is set for a possible heated battle for the 2011 championship with several scenarios coming into play for the drivers who choose to compete in the final events. Just a few of the scenarios are included in this press release. Current leader Jake Griffin of Quincy, Illinois has accumulated 1,486 points out of a possible 1,500. Griffin will likely compete in the two remaining events at 24 Raceway. Should he win one of these events he would replace a second place finish and close the year out with 1,488 points. In this scenario, only Rylan Long of Greenfield, Missouri could leap frog over Griffin to lay claim to the championship but only if he competes and accumulates 15 starts, so far Long has amassed 14 starts this season and his low finishes are both 4th-place runs.

Jason Bodenhamer of Centerview, Missouri, the 2008 ULMA Champion, is still alive in the title campaign but is in a must-win situation for him to claim another championship. Bodenhamer has two 3rd-place finishes and one 2nd-place finish to discard should he decide to compete in and then ultimately win the final three races; in this instance, he would end the year with 1,488 points. To add to the excitement, a fourth driver is alive in the title hunt and that driver is Odessa, Missouri’s Steve Clancy, who has three 4th-place finishes to discard. If Clancy were to win the final three events he also would accumulate 1,488 points. The championship will take another twist this Saturday once we find out who shows up at the race and if any o the contenders are able to improve upon their fifteen best.

Three distinct geographical locations are well represented in this year’s title hunt with Griffin taking the championship at Callaway Raceway and Scotland County Speedway. Rylan Long reigned supreme at Lucas Oil Speedway with Bodenhamer claiming the CMS championship for a second-consecutive year. Besides the four drivers battling for the championship there are additional drivers trying to hold onto or improve their current spot in the standings. These drivers include Tommy Cordray, Brett Wood, Kevin Coyne, and Bob Test, hot off of his first win of the season. Jon Binning posted a solid second-place finish in his last outing. Danny Lorton, Trace Westling, and Chris Cox are also knocking on the door to the top ten as they try to earn a spot in the guaranteed Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce end-of-year point’s fund.

For this Saturday’s race at 24 Raceway, hot laps start at 6:30 with racing at 7 pm; visit the track online at www.24racewayinmoberly.com. The Crawdad’s Classics Gourmet Hot Sauce ULMA point’s-earning season runs through October 2nd with the last two races taking place on Saturday, October 1st at CMS with an extra $600 added throughout the purse and Sunday, October 2nd at 24 Raceway in Moberly for $1,000 to win.
