St Louis Area Drivers And Springfield Raceway Turkey Classic Success

Springfield RacewaySpringfield,Mo.-While St. Louis dirt track racing has been known for UMP Top Notch Racing,several St Louis area drivers have found some success at the Quick-Quarter of the Springfield Raceway while competing in the Season-ending Turkey Classic.

This season’s Classic sponsored by O’Reilly Autoparts and Bad Boy Mowers will be ran on Sat November 26th with LateModels,A-Mods,B-Mods and Legend cars competing.

In 2009,the Speedway changed the format and turned to the always popular and high-horse power of Latemodels along with A-Mods,B-Mods and Legends.In 2009 National Dirt hall of famer “Easy” Eddie Dixon was able to race his way into the feature event as 35 LateModel fought for 20 spots.Dixon was running good early but problems put the Washington drivers out early as he finished in the 19th place spot.John Beck was able to qualify through one of 2 last chance races and secure a 12th place finish while in A-Modified competition Festus,Mo Rusty Griffaw was able to qualify through the passing points system,but pulled out of the feature early and finished 19th.

For the 2010 edition of the Turkey classic,3 St Louis area drivers qualified to the LateModel feature event as Beck continued his strong performances at Springfield with a 7th place finish while Ron McQuerry and Bruce Unterbrink finished 17th and 18th.St Louis legend Mike”The Hammer”Hammerle just missed the feature by finishing third in his last chance race right behind McQuerry hile out of 75 A-Mods Steve Masiel of House Springs was able to qualify through one of 5 last chance races and had a 16th place finish while Jeff Lebaube was only able to record a 7th place finish in a last chance qualifier.

For 2011,The Latemodels will be on a tire rule of either Hoosier WRS D55’s or the LM 40.Steel Block motors weight rule is 2200 Lbs while Aul. Blocks must weight 2300 Lbs. THe Spoiler rule for Latemodels under MARS/MLRA Type Rules is 8 inches while drivers with a Crate motor must comply with NeSmith Chevrolet Rules,the rear tires must be either the LM 40 or WRS D55’s as the winner will recieve 2,000 while starting the feature pays 300.

For 2011 in the A-Mods,NO Spoilers are allowed and the A-Mods weight rule is the same as USRA but this season a 8,000RPM Chip rule is in place.THe A-Mods will battle for $1200 to win and $400 to start.Tire rules are American Racer KK704 or IMCA Stamped Hoosier G60(Grooving and sipping allowed).

The ever growing popular B-Mods will find some interesting competing as they battle for $750 to win and $110 to start.Springfield Spec motor rules and Crate rules apply(GM 602 Crate) along with the chance for IMCA Legal B-Mods to compete with the following

A couple adjustments to the B MODS Rules for Turkey Classic Race:
IMCA SPORT MODS WEIGHT 2450 .MAY GROOVE OR SIPE HOOSIERS
IMCA CRATE MANDATORY 6200 CHIP.
IMCA SPEC ENGINE DOES NOT HAVE TO RUN A CHIP

 Last season Iowa’s Jesse Sobbing came from 10th to capture the win in an IMCA Legal Car.No Spoilers at all in the B-Mods.for more information contact Jerry Hoffman at 417-673-7426 for rules for any class.GM Performance money is also available for the top finishing 602 GM Performance crate finishers with an extra $100 to the highest finishing A feature car,$75 to the 2nd and 3rd highest finishing Crate motor and $50 to the 4th highest in the feature.

 

THis season we will see how the top drivers do in the 4th running of this Sat after Thanksgiving popualr Event.John Beck seems to have had the most success so far,but with the talent in the St Louis area only time will tell.

 

The pitgates open at 10:30AM with hotlaps at 1PM.Draw cutoff is set for 2Pm with Drivers meeting at 2:15.Racing to start at 3PM.Pit passes are only $35 while Grandstands will open at 1PM.grandstand Adult Admission is only $20
