West Plains Motor SpeedwayCARTERSVILLE, GA – West Plains Motor Speedway in West Plains, MO has joined the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series for the 2012 season. Drivers in the Crate Late Model Division will now be eligible for both a track point fund and a National point fund that will pay $10,000 to the National Champion and pay back ten spots in the point standings.

West Plains Motor Speedway is the latest new track to sign on with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series for 2012. West Plains Motor Speedway joins Deep South Speedway in Loxley, AL, Pike County Speedway in McComb, MS, 441 Speedway in Dublin, GA, Modoc Speedway in Modoc, SC, and Clayhill Motorsports in Atwood, TN as new series tracks for 2012.

“Next season will be the third season for our Crate Late Model Division, and we’re looking forward to seeing this Division grow with the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series sanction,” Brent Martin of West Plains Motor Speedway said. “There has been a lot of positive interest in this Division, and the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series is going to be a good thing for our competitors.”

The addition of West Plains Motor Speedway gives the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series a track that has a deep history and tradition in the sport of dirt late model racing.

“We’re honored to have a track that has played an important role in the history of dirt late racing as a part of the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series,” NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series Director Roby Helm said. “West Plains Motor Speedway is a great facility that has hosted some the greatest dirt late model races in the history of the sport. We’re looking to working with the staff and competitors of West Plains Motor Speedway in 2012 and being a part of their rich tradition.”

Helm said West Plains Motor Speedway fits into an area that is seeing a strong increase in the number of racers turning to the economical Crate Late Model Division where they find they can compete and spend less money.

“We have seen a strong influx of dirt Modified competitors into the crate late model division that started in Mississippi and has begun to move west into West Tennessee, Arkansas and Missouri,” Helm said. “The cost of Modified engines continues to climb upward in the five figure range, and the GM Performance Crate Engines remain economical at $5,195. A racer can get a complete ready-to-race dirt late model for the price of just what the engine costs for a modified.”

Drivers at West Plains Motor Speedway on Saturday nights will compete against drivers at other NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series tracks through the country each weekend during a 27-week season from April 6, 2012 through October 7, 2012 through a points system. A competitor’s best 14 weekly point totals will count towards their National point total.

Drivers can compete in multiple races each week with their highest single event point total counting for that week. A driver can also earn up to 100 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points that will be added to their best 14 week point total. A driver can earn as much as 800 points that represents 14 50-point wins and 100 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points.

Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points can be earned in two different ways. A driver can earn 25 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points by competing in four straight events at a single track. A driver can also earn 25 Weekly Racing Series Bonus Points by competing in a NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Touring event during the Weekly Racing Series season.

The dirt late model race cars in the NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series are powered by the economical GM Performance Crate Engines that are built and sealed at the factory to prevent any expensive modifications. There are two engines to choose from, the 400 horsepower aluminum-head 604 engine and the 350 horsepower steel-head 602 engine that gets a 150-pound weight break.

These engines are in stock and ready for free next day delivery anywhere in the Southeast from NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA. The GM Performance 604 Crate Engine is on sale for $5,095 and the GM Performance 602 Crate Engine is on sale for $3,195 at NeSmith Chevrolet in Claxton, GA.
