Lebanon MidwayThe Midway Speedway started its 2012 racing season with the Spring Fling Event and some quick racing action Sat night.

Lebanon’s Kris Jackson captured the B-Modified feature by starting in the pole position and leading all 15 laps in a dominating style.Defending track champion Michael Stake was a solid second place as a side by side battle featured the race for third spot with Jim Piercy Jr and Ted Ballinger after Dewayne Hobbs pulled-in with problems on lap 12 while in the third spot.Former track champion Jason Otto was in the race for position during much of the race in the third place position. The feature only had 2 cautions early in the race.Jackson rocketed ahead at the start as Stake would be fending off Ballinger,Hobbs,Otto and Jim Pearcy Jr. as he started the feature in the 10th spot.

For Jackson it was a big payday for the Lebanon driver in his hometown track’s opening event  as Stake could never really mount a challange for the lead. The race ended under checkered and caution as Robert Baltzell has slowed on the final lap which saw a photo finish with Piercy nipping Ballinger at the line for the third place spot as Ballinger ran side by side for the pot.Otoo completed the top 5 finish.

Derek Brown took the opening lead in the Factory Stock feature over pole setter Brian Schutt and would lead all 20 laps to grab the win.in the caution free race.Schutt would close-up in the closing laps after pulling away for the race for position with Tim Petty and Bob Gustin but could never pull even with Brown.Derek Brown took the win with Schutt,Tim Petty,Bob Gustin and Tim Brown at the finish.

Sam Petty took the lead from early leader Rusty Forrest at the halfway mark of the Midwest Modified feature race to grab the first place prize money.Forrest took the lead at the start from pole setter Petty with Petty,Tim Jones,JC Newell and Travis Hill following.Forest and Petty race closed to each other as Jones started to close-in along with Newell. After an opening lap caution, the feature went green until lap 6 when Sean Williams suffered a flat tire after starting 12th and had moved into the 6th spot.Top 5 driver Travis Hill pulled into the pits and out of action during the caution.Petty pulled close to forrest on the restart and the leaders went door to door for the next 2 laps until Petty grabbed the lead on lap 8 as Newell moved around Jones for third place.Petty and Forrest stayed close for the remaining laps with Petty taking the win as Forrest,Newell,Jones and 11th place starter Bennie Joiner rounded out the top 5 drivers.

Tyler Schoen took the lead on the opening lap from pole setter Rob White at the start of the Pure Stock race and kept Jack Hamer at bay to grab the win.Schoen was dominant in the early parts of the feature as only 1 caution flew early for Stacye Francis spun in turn 2.Hamer would move around White on the restart and slowly close-in on leader Schoen.Hamer would get close, but Schoen was flawless in the 15 lap feature. After Schoen it was Hamer,White,Monk Barker and defending track chapion Matt Young in the final top 5 finish.Young raced from the 9th starting spot after issues Friday night placed him towards the back.

The wildest feature of the night,Joe Francis would avoid several close misses to take the lead on lap 11 and take the win.Francis had to survive a rollover on friday night qualifying and worked all day long to get the car in race form.At the start it was Mark Simon taking the opening lead from pole setter Matt Darnell and was pulling away.Francis moved into the second place and Shawn Schmidt following.Front running Melvin Smith had a rough night as he suffered 2 flat tires ending his night early.Up front Simon was dominating until lap 8 when he pulled to the infield while leading. This put Francis in the lead with with Shawn Schmidt in second place.Francis then began smoking with a power steering leakage.Schmidt took the lead on lap 9 and Francis into the second place spot  as Darnell quickly closed in contend also.On lap11,Francis took back the lead and withstood Darnell’s charge to grab a win. After Francis it was Darnell,Schmidt,Kevin Forshey and Wayne Bysor.

Tony Jackson Jr took the opening lead in the A-Modified feature and never was challanged in the race.Justin Neuman came on late in the feature after a rough start to take home a runner-up spot while Robbie Bryant and Tyler Brown followed.

Midway Speedway will be racing again Sat Night April 7th as they start the points races for B-Modifieds,Factory Stocks,Street Stocks and Midwest Modifieds with Racing To start at 7:30.
