The stands were packed full of excited and and enthused race fans as opening points night was finally upon us at I-35 Speedway. Not only were the stands packed but the pits had 96 race cars and what a show they would put on for the fans.

Mike Nichols of Harlan, Iowa drew the number one pill in the IMCA Stock Car line up and that would put him on the pole for his A-Main. Early on the 3 time I-35 Speedway track champion and multiple time IMCA National Champion had Jon Boller Jr. right behind him before a caution would come out and kill the momentum Boller had. On the ensuing restart Nichols would pull away and pick up the win. Pat Neely of St. Joseph, Mo. had a great run finishing second, not to far behind Nichols. Aaron Parmer of Humeston, Ia. finished third, Cody Clark was fourth and Jon Boller Jr. finished fifth. Last seasons IMCA Hobby Stock Champion Greg Keuhn from Trenton, Mo. won the hard charger.

Chad Clancy from Smithville, Mo. was back in an IMCA SportMod after a successful run in the Grand National division the last few years. And first night out Clancy would hold off a stout field of cars to pick up the win. Clay Hale led the first few laps before suspension problems plagued the young Cameron, Mo. driver. Last season points champ Mike Tanner from Kansas City, Mo. finished right behind Clancy in the second postion, Mt. Ayr, Iowa’s Brett Shields finished third, followed by Hol,t Mo. driver Jason Billups and Wes Bestgen from Osborn, Mo. Aaron Duvall from Kirksville, Mo. gained sixteen spots to win the hard charger award.

After some successful seasons with Steven Glenn’s Modified program Trenton, Missouri’s Bud Wilson picked up his second career Grand National win driving one of the I-35 Speedway cars. Wilson led every lap and held off challenges from former champion Travis Walker of Cameron, Mo. and former winner Mike Taylor Jr. from Kansas City, Mo. Walker would finish a close second, Thomas Roberts from Kidder, Mo. driving Lonnie Farley’s car finished third, Bobby Lopez of Kansas City was fourth and Taylor Jr. rounded off the top five. Bobby Lopez won the hard charger award.

Kevin Fee made the trip from Knoxville, Iowa a successful one in the IMCA Hobby Stocks as he captured his first I-35 Speedway checkered flag. Fee had a good battle with Austin Luellen of Minburn, Iowa for the lead. Luellen held on for second, Alexis Whitney from Trenton, Missouri rebounded for a third place finish, Scott Treadwell also from Trenton finished fourth and Alex Anderson fished off the Trenton, Missouri driver charge with a fifth place finish. Scott Treadwell won the hard charger award.

Last week Mike Van Genderen left I-35 Speedway as the Iron Man Stock Car winner, tonight the Newton, Iowa driver came in and took home the IMCA Modified win. Van Genderen had a battle early with another newcomer Jeff James and late in the race Mike Henson. Henson from Hinton Iowa rebounded after an early flat to finish second, James finished third, Darren Shaw from Lathrop, Missouri was fourth and Winston, Missouri’s Jason Estes was fifth. Jeramiah Asher gained sixteen spots to win the hard charger.

Next week its night number two of an already exciting points season. Don’t forget to follow us on twitter, like us on facebook and visit www.i-35speedway.net for all the latest info!!!
