Wheatland, MO (April 15th, 2012) – After heavy rain and storms rolled through Wheatland, Missouri on Friday and early Saturday, the skies cleared just in time to hold Opening Night. The season opener, Spring Thunder brought not only the Lucas Oil MLRA stars and rookies, but also a stout field of USRA A-Modifieds. The Carson’s Corner Napa Factory Stocks had a strong contingent of drivers out for $500 to Win from Elite Auto Repair. In the end drivers from three states landed in the Lucas Oil Speedway Victory Lane. Omaha, Nebraska’s, John Anderson claimed his first win at the Diamond of Dirt Tracks in the 30 Lap Lucas Cattle Company Late Model Feature. In the Pitts Homes A-Modifieds, John Allen of Chanute, Kansas took the checkers. The Carson’s Napa Factory Stock win went to Burl Woods from Republic, Missouri.

The Lucas Oil MLRA feature event had fans on their feet when a 2-lap shoot-out following a late race caution gave Jesse Stovall of Galena, Missouri a chance to take the lead from race winner, John Anderson. Early in the race Stovall led, but a cut tire sent him tail-back. Stovall carefully worked from 23rd to inside the top five with plenty of time to chase down the leaders. Mike Collins ran up front throughout the race. Stovall picked off Collins who was running in 2nd and then he was dialed in on John Anderson. Stovall caught Anderson quickly and when the green flag came out after the caution, a roaring crowd rose to their feet. Anderson edged Stovall across the AAA Missouri Start/Finish Line for the win and the $3000 pay day.

The first night of action for the Lucas Oil Weekly Championship Series of 2012 was also the first night of USRA A-Modifieds. The Pitts Home A-Modifieds follow the USRA sanctioned rules and regulations and are also eligible to earn National USRA Points at Lucas Oil Speedway. John Allen in his #98 Hughes Racing Chassis, was able to top Jason Russell after the two traded the top spot twice during the feature event. Russell from Henley, Missouri was followed by Tim Setzer from Archie, Missouri in third. Paden Phillips took the fourth spot, Jaime Ragland finished out the top five.

Twenty-Five Carson’s Corner Napa Factory Stocks rolled onto the track for the feature event. Several early race cautions mixed up the field. Race winner, Burl Woods battled early with 2011 Track Champion, Sundance Keepper. Keepper’s night ended a few laps too early when he and race leader, Derek Brown from Stoutland, Missouri, tangled on lap 16. With Keepper and Brown out of contention, Woods was able to keep plenty of space between himself and Johnny Coats from Joplin, Missouri. Coats finished in second followed by Ben Solberg of Lebanon, Missouri. Mark Carter and Brian Schutt finished fourth and fifth respectively.

Lucas Oil Speedway kicks off the Lucas Oil Weekly Championship Series with all four classes running next Saturday night. ALPS Food Stores ULMA Late Models, Pitts Homes A-Modifieds, Carson’s Corner Napa Factory Stocks and DJ’s RV B-Modifieds will all be gunning for early season championship points.
