Erb Drops In and Cashes In at Quincy

Dennis Erb, Robbie Reed, Terry Houston, Jim Gillenwater, Jake Powers and Andrew Davis all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday May 6 during Poage Auto Plaza Night at the Races.

The UMP Super Late Models checked in twenty three entrants for the evenings racing and the large field did not disappoint the fans. Dewayne Kiefer grabbed the win in the first heat race in his first ever appearance atQuincy Racewayswith Mark Burgtorf taking heat two and Dennis Erb grabbing the checkers in heat three. Erb took the win in the dash after a hard fought battle with Burgtorf during the early stages but Burgtorf retired for the night with mechanical problems midway through the dash. Erb and Brandon Sheppard sat on the front row of the thirty lap main event with Erb taking the early lead and looking like a shoe in for the win but a series of caution flags kept the field close throughout the event. In the closing laps, Dewayne Kiefer rallied to Erb’s rear bumper in heavy traffic but had to settle for second when the checkered flag flew. Sheppard claimed third followed by Michael Long in fourth and Bobby Pierce in fifth.

Robbie Reed took the lead of the Miller Lite UMP Modified feature event fromTroy Grotzon the third lap withDavid Wietholderclimbing into second on the fifth lap. Reed and Wietholder battled side by side during the remaining laps of the twenty five lapper, exchanging the lead numerous times to have the crowd on their feet and screaming at the action. Reed held on for the win as Weitholder slipped high in turn two with two laps left. Wietholder claimed second followed by Jake Griffin in third, Steven DeLonjay in fourth and Shawn Deering in fifth.Griffin, Reed and Wietholder were the heat race winners.

Terry Houstonlaid claim to the IMCA Stock Car main event after a hard fought battle withAaron Brocksieck. Brocksieck settled for second with Jerry Jansen in third, Abe Huls in fourth and Gabe Harrison in fifth. Michael Larson who took the heat race win was uninjured as his Stock Car flipped coming off turn two during the main event.

Jim Gillenwater took a hard fought win in the Summy Tire & Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod main event by holding off Tony Dunker to take his first win of the season atQuincy. Dunker settled for second followed by Joe Bliven in third,Tanner Klingelein fourth and Rick Barlow Jr. in fifth. Gillenwater took the heat race win.

Jake Powers made a clean sweep of the Quincy Hobby Stock division by winning both his heat race and the twenty lap main event.Nathan Andersscored the second spot followed byJeremy Bussin third, Brandon Symmonds in fourth and Jim Brown in fifth.Jim Powelltook the other heat race win.

Andrew Davis laid claim the win in the IMCA Sport Compact main event by holding off Mike Hornung Jr. in a tight battle to the checkered flag. Hornung settled for second with Seith Woodrow in third, Thomas Angelo in fourth and Joe McDannald in fifth. Angelo and Davis were the heat race winners.
