Springfield,Mo.-Defending MLRA Champion John Anderson withstood MARS point leader Jesse Stovall’s challanges in capturing the 6th annual John Kuntz Memorial presented by Andy’s Frozen Custard at the “Quick-Quarter” of the Springfield Raceway Saturday Night as the MARS and MLRA Regional Series battled it out on the multi-groove lightning Quick Quarter-Mile.

Anderson and former Turkey Classic winner Justin Wells brought the field to the gren as Anderson quickly found the competition tough tonight.Iowa’s Chad Simpson shot to the bottom groove and pulled even as they raced side by side while Wells,Tony Jackson Jr.,Wendell Wallace, and Terry Phillips battled.Simpson took the lead and moved to the extreme top of the track as Anderson trailed. The fast pace and close action kept everyone guessing what would happen as the leaders began to work lapped traffic.A couple of quick caution kept Simpson and Anderson from getting into traffic as Simpson was keeping Anderson at bay.Simpson then began to trail smoke in his car and Anderson kept attempting to reel in the leader as 3 wide action was behind the leaders. In turn 4 contact between Anderson and Simpson sent Simpson going around as Anderson now took over the top spot as Simpson went to the pits.On the restart Anderson would find Jesse Stovall riding the top lane and closing quickly.Stovall would catch Anderson as the lead duo worked traffic.Stovall would go to the bottom of the Speedway and pull even with Anderson as traffic began to play a factor as Wells and company were battling for third place and beyond with positions being exchanged.A couple of cautions kept a guessing game as to the outcome as Stovall picked the top lane on the restarts.Anderson shot ahead as Stovall began to set-up for the closing 5 laps.Moving down low,Stovall pulled even with the leader as the white displayed.Anderson kept the high lane working as Stovall pulled to within half a car length at the finish while Wells,Wendell Wallace and Tony Jackson Jr. completed the top 5.For Anderson it was his first Kuntz win and second overall at Springfield as he captured the Larry Phillips Memorial last season.

In support action,2010 track champion Mitch Keeter took the lead from leader Erik Maggard on lap 6 and never looked back in the Budweiser USRA Modified feature. The race behind Keeter provided plenty of racing as John Yeoman III gathered another top finish by withstanding Mark Dotson’s late surge to grab the runner-up spot while Dairan Hendrix and Rob Muilenburg completed the top 5 as 13 of the 19 entries completed the lead lap.Maggard who flipped wildly last week arrived in time for his week race and had a strong car early but faded later while a lap 7 incident ended current point leader Jackie Dalton’s night as an outstanding field of A-Mods competed for extra money from Dark Side Tanning Salon in Joplin.

Point lead Scott Drake grabbed the lead on lap 5 from Mike Hailman to take his second win of the season in the Reliable Chevrolet USRA B-Modified feature. An opening lap incident eliminated last weeks winner Brandon Maggard and Robert Baltzell as Jon Yeoman Jr. and Jeff Scroggins were also involved.Andy Beauchamp would lead lap 1 as Blake Ellis took the point on lap 2 and 3 before Hailman took control.Kaleb Copher rallied to finish second behind Drake with Hailman,Jerry Lankton and Jared Thulin completing the top 5.

Wheeler Metals Legends action saw plenty of side by side racing as Hailman won his third straight Transport Graphics Championship Chase points race.Jay Reynolds took the opening lead with Wayne Johnston following.Reynolds would lead the opening 4 laps before Johnston took over as Hailman followed him through. On lap 7, Hailman took the lead leaving the rest to battle for second place as Reynolds and Johnston provided wheel to wheel action.Following Hailman to the line was former champion Justin Comer,Caleb McDugle, father James McDugle and Rodney Baird.

Casey’s General Stores Midwest Modified action saw a spirited battle between defending track champion Trevor Drake and Michael Page with Drake getting the win.Ken Walker grabbed the opening lead for 2 laps before spinning in turn 2 collecting front runner Todd McGregor.Page then took the lead until lap 5 when Drake went to the bottom of the track and the duo ran side by side as the battle between Charlie Gentile,Taylor Moore,Bobby Gough and co-point leader Rusty Forrest.Drake would hold of Page in the closing laps to secure the win as Page’s strong run was nullified in the tech afterwards.Behind Drake in the final rundown was Gentile,Moore,Gough and Forrest.

Kylan Garner made a smooth move in turn 3 in the Young Lions Legends feature to grab his first win of the season as Grayson Cox and leader Wesley Smith made contact while running up front.Garner then pulled away and never looked back while Smith rallied for second followed by Cox.

Bryan Tillman pulled off a 3 wide pass against the wall on lap 2 and took the Williams Lawn Care Street Stock feature leaving close action behind him.Current point leader Wayne Morris made a last lap pass to secure the runner-up spot while last weeks winner Jim Reid followed along with Shawn Schmidt and Wayne Bysor.

The Pepsi Pure Stock feature had a wild finish and provided another 1st time winner.Elizabeth Jolley took the opening lead only to give it up on lap 2 to defending champion Jack Hamer.A lap 3 caution bunched the field-up and point leader Bret Testerman took the lead on lap 4.Testeram and Hamer showed wheel to wheel racing up front and on the final lap things got real interesting.Last weeks winner Philip Schloesser jumped the cushion in turn 2 falling back as Testerman pulled even with Hamer in the final turn. The lead duo touched sending both spinning wildly. With the leaders trying to gather it up,second year driver Lenny Bell came out of no where and drove around to take his first ever win as Darrell Storment,Tyler Thulin,Hamer and Jolley completed the top 5.

Action continues Saturday Night May 19th at Springfield Raceway with the Transport Graphics Championship Chase featuring USRA Modifieds, USRA B-Modifieds,Midwest Modz,Pure Stocks,Legends,Young Lions and Street Stocks with Racing at 7PM.
