Flora, IL-June 2, 2012- The American Modified Series contested the first event of its 2012 season on Saturday evening with their first ever visit to the Clay County Speedway in Flora, IL and Brian Shaw of Robinson, IL would see the checkered flag first and pick up the $1,500 payday.
Trent Young and Brian Shaw would bring the 22 car starting field to the green flag, with Young taking the initial race lead only to see Shaw slip past him on lap 5 and lead the rest of the way to pick up the inaugural American Modified Series event win of 2012 in the tour’s first ever visit to Clay County Speedway. Chad Kinder would claim runner-up honors, while former UMP Modified national champion Mike Harrison would come home in the third position. Ed Shamhart and 17th starting Terry Messenger would complete the top five.
The remainder of the top ten finishers would be Jimmy Payne, 19th starting Tim Lewis, Jr., Rocky Wilson, 18th starting Everett Bradham, and 16th starter Bill Dugger. The 30 lap, $1,500 to win event would be slowed by six caution flags and take 38 minutes to complete.
In preliminary action, Trent Young would be the Williams Precision Engine top qualifier among 28 entries at 16.130 seconds. Trent Young would win Hypercoil Springs heat one, while Mike Harrison won Wiles Driveshafts heat two. Brian Shaw would take VP Racing Fuels heat three and Rocky Wilson would score the win in Comp Cams heat four. Terry Messenger would win the B-Main.
