DIRTcarCONCORD, NC – June 15, 2012 – Jim Moon of Zionsville, Ill. (Late Models) and Devin Gilpin of Columbus, Ind. (UMP Modifieds) maintained solid leads in their respective divisional national standings following Week 20 of the 2012 DIRTcar UMP points race.

Moon, a 40-year-old known as the ‘Moon Man,’ held an 87-point lead (1,612-1,575) over Kevin Weaver of Gibson City, Ill., in DIRTcar UMP-sanctioned races contested through June 10 – the last national rankings before the start of the DIRTcar Summer Nationals, which kicked off on Wednesday night at Brownstown (Ind.) Speedway and will greatly shape the points battle over the next month.

Moon’s points lead has been built on the strength of his 32 counted UMP-sanctioned starts – five more than the next closest driver in the Late Model class, which has its standings determined using competitors’ best 35 finishes/points nights.

But Moon broke through for his first feature win of the season last Saturday night (June 9), reaching Victory Lane at Montgomery County Speedway in New Florence, Mo. He scored a sixth-place finish on June 8 at Belle-Clair Speedway in Belleville, Ill., and a runner-up placing on June 10 at Quincy (Ill.) Raceways.

Weaver, who has 25 counted races under his belt, won his eighth overall feature of 2012 on June 8 at Kankakee (Ill.) County Speedway. Five of his victories have come at Kankakee.

Gilpin, meanwhile, continued to build his UMP Modified national points lead, pushing his edge to 219 points (1,985-1,766) over Nick Allen of Wheatfield, Ill.

The young Gilpin is sizzling hot on the DIRTcar UMP circuit, adding back-to-back wins last weekend at Moler Raceway Park in Williamsburg, Ohio (June 8) and Portsmouth (Ohio) Raceway Park (June 9) to performance record that now shows 17 victories. He has won seven of his last nine starts.

Other divisional national points leaders through Week 20 are Mark Oller of Highland, Ill. (Pro Late Models); Troy Clark of North Vernon, Ind. (Sportsman); Haley Westerfield of Owensboro, Ky. (Limited Modifieds); A.J. Wright of Danville, Ill. (Stock Cars); Josh Grabe of Muskegon, Mich. (Factory Stocks); and Jeremy Callahan of Mt. Vernon, Ill. (Sport Compacts).
