Eldora Speedway(PINCONNING, MICHIGAN) The #55 Iron Motorsports team invaded the famed Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio on June 8-9 for the 18th edition of the ‘Dirt Late Model Dream’ presented by Ferris Commercial Mowers. A star-studded 98 car field converged on the “Big E” over the weekend and all eyes were pointed towards the hefty $100,000 top prize. In qualifying action on Friday night, Jeep Van Wormer posted the tenth fastest lap in the two-round session, which put him on the front row for one of the six heat races on Saturday evening.

Jeep was blazing fast during his prelim on Saturday, as he drove off from the field to claim the convincing win over fellow transferees Dennis Erb, Jr. and Darrell Lanigan. When the 100-lapper rolled off in front of the large crowd, Jeep started from the inside of the second row. The Pinconning, Michigan ace ran amongst the top ten throughout the early stages of the race, but sealed-over tires caused him to lose multiple spots following restarts. Jeep wound up finishing one lap down and in the seventeenth position. Full results from the ‘Dirt Late Model Dream’ weekend can be found online at www.eldoraspeedway.com.

“I was really pumped with how our car performed in the heat race, but I really don’t know what happened in the feature,” exclaimed Van Wormer while working this week. “Every restart just killed me though. I don’t know what we did wrong with our tire selection or preparation, but the car was just never the same after the first restart. We will just keep working hard at the shop and get ready for Oakshade and I-96 in a couple of weeks.”

Following the long weekend at Eldora, the #55 team has opted to take the upcoming June 15-16 weekend off from Dirt Late Model competition. Next up for the Iron Motorsports team will be the $4,800 to win ‘Barney Oldfield’ race on Saturday, June 23 at the Oakshade Raceway in Wauseon, Ohio. A visit to the I-96 Speedway in Lake Odessa, Michigan will then round out the weekend on Sunday, June 24, as the UMP Summer Nationals battle will pay $5,000 to the winner.
