(LEBANON, Missouri) – As scorching hot temperatures and a soaring heat index linger in the vicinity and meteorologists projecting dangerous extremes on the way, Lebanon I-44 Speedway has decided to cancel this Saturday’s racing program in the best interests of both fan and competitor safety.
“We don’t want to make our fans and drivers suffer through what could be a miserable night on Saturday,” said Lebanon I-44 Speedway promoter Kevin Greven. “We’re making this call now to preempt any potential negatives and appreciate the understanding of both fans and drivers that safety takes precedence over everything. After such an incredible event on Tuesday night that featured a packed house and some awesome racing, everyone at I-44 is looking forward to the next time we take to the track on Saturday, July 21.”
The Hardee’s Sportsman ‘Lucky 21’ twin features originally scheduled for this weekend will be rescheduled for Saturday, July 28, with racing scheduled to return to Missouri’s only asphalt oval on Saturday, July 21, for Cintas Night at the Races as the O’Reilly Auto Parts ASA Late Models highlight the 11th ‘Kickin’ Asphalt’ program of the season at the 3/8th-mile speed plant.
With the July 14th weekend already off the schedule out of respect to the Laclede County Fair, teams will have over two weeks to get their racing machines in top shape before the two-month run to the end of the 2012 campaign begins.
