The temperatures were soaring but it did not stop Brian Shirley from a dominating performance at Quincy Raceways during the UMP Summer Nationals on Friday July 6. Shirley set overall fast time in qualifying over thirty other competitors and the only thing that slowed him all night was a lightning strike that caused a power outage during the forty lap feature event that shut the tracks lights down. The $7500 to Win Summer Nationals feature event saw Shirley hold off a determined Brandon Sheppard by 1.1 seconds to take his fifth win on the tour as he increased his points lead over Shannon Babb. Babb scored the third spot followed by Ryan Unzicker in fourth and Jason Feger in fifth. Shirley, Unzicker, Sheppard and Babb were the heat race winners with Mike Spatola grabbing the checkered flag in the C-main.

Michael Long took the win in the Powder Coat Plus Summit DirtCar Modified Summer Nationals feature event after rain began to fall during an eighth lap caution period. The race was called complete with Mike Harrison in second, Steven DeLonjay in third, Donovan Lodge in fourth and Dave Wietholder in fifth. Long took the win in the Fast Eight Dash, with Shawn Deering taking the last chance heat race win.

Jake Powers recovered from a devastating crash last Sunday night at Quincy Raceways by taking a huge win in the Quincy Hobby Stock feature event. Powers held off Jeff DeLonjay in second, Tanner Klingele in third, Jeremy Buss in fourth and Justin Bevill in fifth.

Coming up nest at Quincy Raceways on Sunday July 8 is Sullivan Auctioneers Night at the Races with all six divisions competing in point’s racing. Remember to bring your Summer Nationals ticket stub back to the front gate to receive $2 off all tickets for July 8. The Pit Gates open at 3:30, Grandstands at 5, Driver’s Registration ends at 5:30, Driver’s Meeting at 5:30, Hot Laps at 5:45 and Racing starting at 6:30pm.
