Springfield, Mo.- The “Quick-Quarter” of the Springfield Raceway is preparing for another of the can’t miss special events as the running of the Summer Perry Memorial will be held on Saturday July 21 featuring an Open-wheeled Independent Midget event along with the Transport Graphics Championship Chase Events.
The Perry family operated the Springfield Raceway (then called Airport Speedway) for several seasons and Summer was a former Miss I-44 Speedway. She lost her life to early in life at the age of 29 in a car crash on December 12, 2009. Summer was the instructor of the ALERT gifted program at Inman School in Nixa and was well respected and liked in the community.
“With the Perry Family former owners of Springfield Raceway, it really is only fitting that we have this memorial event there.” quoted Jon Sawyer. Sawyer who owns and races Midget Open-wheel cars started this event because of the Perry family. “Mark and Brenda have always been so active not only in the racing community, but also in the Springfield Area. I wanted to do something special for the family because they are special people and very giving. Loosing a special lady such as Summer was a true loss and we need to keep her memory strong.”
The Race will pay $1200 to win and at least $150 to start the feature event. Sawyer has worked hard and has many great sponsors that make it all possible. The rules are Chili Bowl type rules for Midgets. For more information on the rules please contact Sawyer at 417-224-3660. Sawyer’s group will be doing the payout for the Midget Event while the Springfield Raceway Staff will be helping with the race program. Drivers will draw for heat races with the heats setting the field for the feature event. There is No entry fee for the Midgets in this event as Top Midget drivers from the 4 state area are expected. Defending event winner from 2011 was Todd McVay of Lees Summit, Missouri
