Hawkeye Downs SpeedwayQuincy, Illinois (07/18/12) – 13-year-old, Jake Griffin powered his Asphalt Open Wheel Modified to another feature win at Hawkeye Downs Speedway (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) on Friday night.

On Friday evening Jake was back in action in a Weekly Racing Series Event at Hawkeye Downs Speedway (Cedar Rapids, Iowa). The night began with a make-up feature for the Open Wheel Modified feature, which was delayed by rain on June 15th. It would be a great race for Jake, who powered from the pole position to the win for his second Asphalt Open Wheel Modified win of the 2012 season. He was followed across the line by Brian Gibson, Craig Bender, Mike Schulte, and Ryan Luedtke.

In the new program for the Open Wheel Modifieds, Jake raced to a third place finish in the feature behind race winner, Mike Schulte, and Ryan Luedtke. The Asphalt Late Model division saw Jake begin his night by winning the first heat race to earn a starting spot at the front of the feature. Unfortunately in the main event, mechanical issues would relegate Griffin to a seventh place finish.

Jake currently sits fourth in the track standings for both the Asphalt Late Model and Asphalt Open Wheel Modified divisions. Full results and the latest standings from both divisions are available at www.HawkeyeDownsSpeedway.com .

On Saturday evening the team rolled into Montgomery Motorsports Park (New Florence, Missouri) for a Weekly Racing Series Event in both his UMP Super Late Model and UMP Open Wheel Modified. Heat race difficulties would plague him in the UMP Modified division, and as a result he started fifteenth on the grid for the feature. Despite starting deep in the field he mounted a great charge to a fifth place finish at the checkered flag.

In the UMP Open Late Model division, Griffin would start at the back of the heat race grid in fourteenth before mounting a charge through the field during the finale. He would advance twelve spots to finish second behind race winner, Dustin Griffin. Even though both divisions saw Jake start the night on a rough note, he was able to end things on a positive note in both classes.

Sunday night saw another tripleheader weekend concluded at Jake’s home track, Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois) with an UMP Super Late Model and UMP Open Wheel Modified event. It would prove to be a rough night for the team as his night ended quickly in the UMP Open Wheel Modified class with a blown engine in his heat race. In the UMP Super Late Model division his luck would not be much better as a rough track would see him retiring pit side early in the feature to a 13th place finish. Full results are available at www.QuincyRaceways.com.

Jake continues to run third in the UMP Northwestern Region Modified points and is now 26th in the overall UMP National Modified standings. Full standings are available at www.UMPRacing.com .

This weekend, July 20th-22nd, will be another tripleheader weekend for the team. On Friday night at Hawkeye Downs Speedway (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) Jake will take part in the Open Wheel Modified and Late Model divisions. On Saturday night, the team will return to Montgomery County Speedway (Florence, Missouri) for a Weekly Racing Series Event before concluding the weekend at Quincy Raceways (Quincy, Illinois) on Sunday night.
