(WHEATLAND, MISSOURI) August 5th, 2012 – Saturday at Lucas Oil Speedway started out with scorching hot tempertures, then the threat of much needed rain. The Weekly Championship Racing Series raced mother nature all night long, the rain held off until just after the conclusion of racing action! For the feature event of the night, $750 to Win Presented by Rains Ice in the Pitts Homes USRA A-Modifieds plus a $300 Gift Certificate from race sponsor Travel Centers of America and PETRO Stopping Centers, went to Jeff Cutshaw. Sundance Keepper took the lead with only a couple laps to go in the Carson’s Corner Napa Factory Stocks, Kris Jackson sailed to another win in the DJ’s RV B-Modifieds and Jeremy Kelley ended his night in Victory Lane in the ALPS Food Stores ULMA Late Models.
Fans were treated to special prizes and give-a-ways all night long courtesy of TA/PETRO. Each of the feature winners took home $300 Lucas Oil Parts Store Gift Certificate from TA/PETRO. Cutshaw, Kelley, Keeper and Jackson all also received the Eibach Springs certificate, good for one FREE Eibach Spring. The Carson’s Corner Napa Factory Stocks rolled out on the Diamond of Dirt Tracks for the first feature of the night. Current points leader Marc Carter from Warrensburg, Missouri started from the pole position with Johnny Coats from Joplin, Missouri second. The two battled early for position before Coats got the lead. With five laps to go Coats got into a lapped car, brought out a caution and was sent to the rear of the field. On the restart, Carter and Sundance Keepper of Everton, Missouri
were side by side for position. Keepper eventually passed Carter for the lead and the win, he now only trails Carter by 10 Championship Points. Kenny Carrol from Camdenton, Missouri started the feature fourth and ran in the front of the pack all 20 laps, he recorded a third place finish.
Next up were the DJ’s RV B-Modifieds. Kris Jackson of Lebanon, Missouri started and finished the feature from the number one spot. Jackson has had a phenomenal season and has chalked up double digit feature wins. Galen Hassler of Columbia, Missouri started the feature fifth and finished second. Dustin Campbell from Nevada, Missouri started the feature 17th on the grid and worked his way through the field to finish third. DJ’s RV Sales and Service added $100 to the payout, choosing the 10th place finisher to award the cash. Robert Russell from Lee’s Summit, Missouri finished in the 10th spot and got the crisp $100 in Victory Lane.
The ALPS Food Stores Late Models rolled out with a stacked field of ULMA cars. Jon Binning from Warrensburg, Missouri had the pole for the feature. Binning had a tough field of competitors within the top five. Larry Jones and Joe Walkenhorst started second and third. Race winner, Jeremy Kelly started fourth. Binning lead early, after a restart Walkenhorst controlled the field for serveral laps. With just a couple laps remaining a late race caution, stacked the field up for a restart. Kelly capitalized on the restart and passed Walkenhorst for the lead and the win. Walkenhorst was followed to the checkers by Jon Binning in second and Jason Russell in third.
The finale of the night, the Pitts Homes USRA A-Modifieds were out for $750 to Win presented by Rains Ice. John Allen from Chanute, Kansas started the 25 lap feature from the pole. Allen lead the race for the first portion, with Stephen Mulinburg from Sparta, Missouri and Mickey Burrell from Fair Grove, Missouri battling for position just behind. Eventually, Jeff Cutshaw Cross Timbers, Missouri driver put the heat on the lead pack and picked up a couple spots. Cutshaw loomed in second before over taking the lead. Austin Siebert from Grandview, Missouri started the feature in 10th and barreled through the field quickly, arriving in the top three in time to challenge for the lead. Cutshaw held strong out front and recorded the win. Siebert was second with Allen and Russell behind in third and fourth, respectively.
The Casey’s General Stores HUNT for the USMTS Modified Championships rolls through Wheatland, Missouri for the second time in as many seasons as the Stars and Cars of the USMTS National Modified Tour make their only appearance of 2012 at the “Diamond of Dirt Tracks”. Also on hand will be the DJ’s RV B-Mods plus the Carson’s Corner Napa Factory Stocks. Discount coupons are available at all participating area Casey’s General Stores.
