USMTS - United States Modified Touring SeriesMONETT, Mo. (Aug. 12) – The United States Modified Touring Series rolled into the Monett Speedway for the 7th Annual USMTS Summer Shootout and the fourth round of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup. And for the 61st time in four years, Ryan Gustin rolled out with the winner’s share of the prize money.

After winning his heat race on the fast 3/8-mile red clay oval, Gustin drew the pole position for the main event and led every lap en route to his second win of ‘The Hunt’ and 14th win overall this season.

Stormy Scott challenged Gustin in the late stages of the race, but was unable to make the pass and had to settle for his second runner-up finish in as many nights.

Rodney Sanders was third, Jeremy Payne finished fourth and multi-time track champion Johnny Bone Jr. rounded out the top 5.

Sixth through tenth, respectively, were Zack VanderBeek, Johnny Scott, Jason Hughes, Stephen Muilenburg and Jesse Stovall.

With four races in the books, Gustin sits atop the USMTS Casey’s Cup Series points standings with a 42-point cushion over Stormy Scott while Sanders is just an additional seven markers behind Scott. The rest of the top 10 spots are held by Johnny Scott, Hughes, Payne, Bryan Rowland, VanderBeek, Terry Phillips and Randy Timms.

NO REST FOR THE WICKED …

After a four-race opening weekend for the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup, the tireless touring titans get two days off before resuming their battle for the $15,000 champion’s check with five races in five nights.

The Best of the Best kick it all off on Wednesday, Aug. 15, at the Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, Minn. A big field is expectd to be on hand as the USMTS National Championship Series will return to this same venue Sept. 7-8 for the fnale for that series.

On Thursday, it’s on to the Rice Lake Speedway in Rice Lake, Wis., and then a few miles south on Friday for another blockbuster battle at Bob Timm’s Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis. Saturday will find the the USMTS sultans of speed at the Upper Iowa Speedway in Decorah, Iowa, and the weekend wraps up Sunday with a second visit to the Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minn.

Each event will pay $3,000 to win and a minimum of $300 to start.
