Lucas Oil Late Model SeriesHazard, Kentucky (08/21/12) – It was a career weekend for Eric as he posted his best-ever finish in a crown jewel event with a third place finish in the 20th Annual COMP Cams Topless 100 at Batesville Motor Speedway (Locust Grove, Arkansas) in his #18 Wells Motorsports/Bloomquist/Roush Yates Racing Engine Super Late Model.

Forty-four Super Late Models entered the event on the heavy and fast, 3/8 mile oval on Friday evening. After registering the sixth fastest time in his group in qualifications Wells started third in the second heat race. With the top four cars transferring to the feature he slipped to a fifth place finish, which relegated him to a b-main on Saturday evening.

On Saturday night Wells started his night by winning the first b-main, which positioned him starting seventeenth on the grid for the feature. As the 100 lap, $40,000-to-win event went green in front of a massive crowd and the SPEED TV cameras, Eric began his march forward as he rapidly worked into the top ten. As the race passed the halfway point he was knocking on the top five, and would eventually race his way into the fifth spot. Once in the top five he kept moving forward as he reached the third spot. He would challenge Jared Landers for the second position late in the event before ultimately registering a third place finish behind race winner, Steve Francis, and Jared Landers. Overall it was a great outing for Eric and the team as they continue to build late-season momentum.

After the feature on Saturday night an elated Wells commented, “This is just an incredible run for us. To be battling at the front of the pack with this caliber of competition is a huge deal for our team. I’m really starting to get comfortable in these cars, and I can’t thank Scott (Bloomquist) enough for all of the help he’s been giving me. This is the greatest night of my life!”

On Thursday, August 23rd the tour will sanction the 9th Annual Scorcher at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls, Gap, Tennessee) before rolling into Lawrenceburg Speedway (Lawrenceburg, Indiana) on Saturday, August 25th.
