(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) The Mars Racing team unloaded both an Open Wheel Modified and a Dirt Late Model for the annual ‘Legendary 100’ weekend on September 14-15 at the renowned Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wisconsin. In his familiar #28 MB Customs Dirt Late Model, Jimmy Mars ran fourth in Friday’s prelim, which earned him the outside second row starting spot in Saturday’s $5,000 to win feature event. Jimmy moved past leader Brady Smith on lap 23 to grab the point, but later gave up the lead in heavy lapped traffic on the 33rd circuit. The Menomonie, Wisconsin ace wound up a strong runner-up behind Smith in the final rundown of the 50-lapper.

Debuting a brand-new MB Customs Modified, Jimmy swept the entire weekend at Cedar Lake! In Friday’s prelim, Jimmy took the lead around the halfway point in the main event and never looked back. After starting Saturday’s show from the pole position, the popular driver known as the “Iceman” led flag-to-flag to pick up the commanding $3,000 triumph over Darrell Nelson, Rodney Sanders, Joey Jensen, and Jody Bellefeuille. Full results from the huge weekend at CLS can be accessed online at www.cedarlakespeedway.com.

“Our new Modified performed really well and I can’t thank everyone at the shop enough for building a great racecar,” exclaimed Mars yesterday. “We have been selling quite a few of them recently and I wanted to get in one myself to provide some feedback to my clients. Then in the Late Model, it was pretty much a one-groove deal and lapped traffic played a big role throughout the race. Once I got by Brady (Smith) for the lead, I just couldn’t pass some of those guys in traffic and Brady was able to take advantage and retake the lead. It was still a good weekend for us and we’ll get our stuff ready for the Punky Manor!”

Next up for Mars Racing will be a trip literally right down the road from their race shop to the Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin for the 33rd edition of the ‘Punky Manor Challenge of Champions.’ The two-day show on September 21-22 will pay $5,000 to win for the Late Models, while the Open Wheel Modifieds will compete for a $2,000 top prize. Jimmy plans to compete in both divisions this weekend at the 1/3-mile oval at the Dunn County Recreation Park.
