Shorter days and cooler temps usually mean the race season is quickly winding down and this time has arrived for Lucas Cattle Company ULMA drivers and fans. So far this year, 44 points-earning events have taken place for drivers dating back to April. This Friday, September 21 marks the final points-earning opportunity for drivers. The season finale takes place at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri. Brett Wood took the last win for ULMA cars at Valley Speedway. Chris Hawkins is the current track point’s leader.

Jason Russell recently wrapped up the 2012 Lucas Cattle Company ULMA championship, becoming the sixth different driver in as many years to do so. However, many of the remaining positions are wide open and final placements will likely come down to this Friday’s action depending on which drivers choose to race. Valley Speedway promoter Dennis Shrout stated, “The track registration for the remainder of the year is $20 for cars not already registered. We are doing double [track] points for all of our classes for this final point’s race. The only fee besides registration if [drivers] are not already registered at Valley Speedway is $25 pit pass and $5 transponder rental.” Additional information may be found at www.valleyspeedway.com.

Last Friday at Callaway Raceways in Fulton, Missouri, Joe Walkenhorst picked up his third ULMA win of the season and first-ever at the track. Walkenhorst stated it was a tough night as the track got a bit rough by feature time. There were 19 drivers on hand for the final event of the year with ULMA champion Jason Russell earning the track championship. Behind Walkenhorst, the action was fierce and sometimes overtly aggressive both during the race and post-race! At the checkers, Jason Russell posted a runner-up finish just ahead of Brother Justin Russell. Jon Binning, Kevin Coyne, Zeke Langley, and Darrin Turner followed closely behind. Chris Lapp and Todd McCoin also posted top ten runs. Visit the track online at www.callawayraceways.com.
