Lucas Oil Late Model Series(SOLON SPRINGS, WISCONSIN) Brady Smith and his #2 team invaded the historic Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa from September 27-29 for the 9th Annual ‘Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.’ The three-day extravaganza at the 1/2-mile Marion County speedplant kicked off with a pair of $7,000 to win preliminary events. On Thursday night, Brady ran fifth in heat race action, won his B-Main, and later climbed fourteen spots in the 25-lap main event en route to a seventh place performance. At Knoxville on Friday evening, Brady finished second in his stacked heat race prior to advancing up to third in the 25-lap A-Main to finish behind only winner Mike Marlar and runner-up Steve Francis.

By virtue of his stellar point night on Friday, Brady earned the rights to the outside of the second row for the $40,000 to win ‘Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals’ on Saturday evening. In front of a huge crowd and the high-definition cameras of the Lucas Oil Production Studios, the Solon Springs, Wisconsin native controlled the star-studded field throughout most of the 100-lapper. Brady grabbed the top spot on lap 27 and led all but one circuit up until lap 70. The popular driver known as “The Prodigy,” who was seeking his second race title, finished an impressive runner-up and received $20,000 for his second place effort behind only winner Steve Francis. Full results can be viewed online at www.lucasdirt.com.

“It is disappointing to lead so many laps and not seal the deal,” quoted Brady earlier this week via telephone. “We had a great car all weekend long, but we just got too tight on Saturday and couldn’t hold off (Steve) Francis. That is one of our favorite races of the year and I would have loved to have won it for the second time, but we’ll take good notes and try again next year. We’ll get our equipment cleaned back up and get ready for Portsmouth in a couple of weeks.”

Following the outstanding weekend in the Hawkeye State, the Brady Smith Racing team is now set to enjoy a couple of weekends away from the racetrack. Their next scheduled event will be 32nd Annual ‘Dirt Track World Championship,’ which will be held for the first time at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio on October 19-20. The DTWC will mark the final event of the season for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series and boasts a hefty $50,000 top prize. Preliminary action will start on Friday night, while the 100-lap DTWC will headline the weekend at PRP on Saturday evening. This event will also be taped by the Lucas Oil Production Studios for broadcast on the SPEED network. Additional information can be obtained by clicking on www.lucasdirt.com.
