Steve Picou collects Nathan Rettig Cotton Bowl Cup 2012 K&N USCS Mod win at Malden

Malden, MO – October 13, 2012 – For the second year in a row, High Ridge Missouri’s Steven Picou was the first driver to reach the www.rockauto.com USCS victory lane in the Nathan Rettig Cotton Boll Cup 30-lap Championship final for the K&N Filters Modified division at Malden Speedway on Saturday night. Picou who also won the 2011 event started in the third position. Malden Speedway regular, Scott Burge from Puxico, Missouri started in the outside of the front row and raced home in the runner-up spot. K&N Filters Pole Position starter Lucas Lee from Paris, Tennessee followed Burge in the K&N Filters Podium Award third place. Jason Hughes from West Plains, Missouri started twelfth and raced his way into fourth place at the finish. Another Malden Speedway regular Jacob Davis from Millersville, Missouri rounded out the top five drivers.

Terry Kirk from led the next group in sixth place. Joseph Leister from Drummonds, Tennessee charged all the way from 21st starting position into seventh place advancing fourteen positions and earning him the Comp Cams Hard Charger Award for the event. Local young gun Tyler Fowler from Portageville, Missouri followed Leister in The current K&N Filters Modified Touring Series points leader and former series Champion, Ben Reed from Munford, Tennessee finished in ninth place. Mike Savage raced his way from outside the second row in the Second B-Main completed the top ten finishers in the A-Main. Jonathan Rowan from Jackson, Tennessee won the first of two earlier B-Mains. Ben Reed won the second one.

The next K&N Filters USCS Modified Touring Series event will be next weekend on Friday and Saturday, October 19th and 20th at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi. On Friday night the “USCS Outlaw” Modifieds will compete for $600 to win in the USCS Fall Brawl 2012 preliminary. The Championship final will be worth $1000 to the winner. The K&N Filters Power Dash for the open wheel mod racers will pay $100 to win each night. The USCS MOD drivers have the option of competing topless either night in the “topless optional” event with a $100 BONUS posted to the highest finishing car without a roof each night. Additionally a $100 “Twin Win” bonus is posted for any driver who can win th K&N Filters USCS Modified main on both nights. All of these pay window opportunities make it possible for one driver to sweep the weekend for a total of $2100.
