(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) Jimmy Mars and his #28 team closed out their version of the 2012 racing season on October 19-20 with the 32nd edition of the ‘Dirt Track World Championship’ at the Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth, Ohio. A total of 94 competitors piled into the pit area at PRP for the $50,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series finale, which also attracted the high-definition cameras of the Lucas Oil Production Studios. After Mother Nature took the win on Friday night, the entire crown jewel event was condensed into a one-day format starting on Saturday afternoon.
The Menomonie, Wisconsin star laid down the sixth quickest lap in Group B during the qualifying session and later finished second in his stacked heat race. Jimmy then rolled off starting from the outside of the sixth row in the 100-lap feature event and moved up inside of the top ten early in the race. Following a mid-race pit stop for new rubber and to repair suspension damage, Jimmy wound up finishing on the lead lap on his way to a fifteenth place DTWC performance. Now that the 2012 campaign is complete for the Mars Racing team, they can now reflect on what was a solid season. Jimmy entered a total of fifty-seven events this year and racked up seven feature wins, twenty-one Top Fives, and thirty-six Top Tens. The biggest victory of the season for the #28 gang came back in late March, as they picked up the $20,000 top prize in the annual ‘Illini 100’ at the Farmer City Raceway in Farmer City, Illinois.
