ABILENE, Texas – NASCAR and fan favorite Ken Schrader will be among the IMCA Modified competitors at Abilene Speedway’s season-opening Ice Breaker special Friday through Sunday, Feb. 22-24.
The visit to Abilene will be the first for Schrader.
“We’re extremely happy to have him here. It will be a huge deal for Abilene Speedway, the community and for West Texas race fans,” said promoter Rob Poor. “We posted on Facebook Wednesday night (Jan. 2) that he’d be here and it’s already gone all over the country.”
Schrader will be in the pit area all three nights; time for a Saturday meet and greet with fans is to be announced.
Features are on the program each night at Abilene for the IMCA Modifieds, Smiley’s Racing Chassis Southern SportMods, IMCA Sunoco Stock Cars and IMCA Sunoco Hobby Stocks. Top prize for Modifieds each night is $500. SportMods run for $400 to win, Stock Cars for $300 to win and Hobby Stocks for $250.
All applicable IMCA points, including track points, will be awarded each night. Northern Region points will be also awarded in the Stock Car division.
All three features for the Modifieds, SportMods and Stock Cars double as Lone Star Series events.
Pit gates open at 4 p.m. hot laps are from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
The pit opens at 3 p.m., hot laps are from 5-6 p.m. and racing is at 7 p.m.
Church services at the track are at 10 a.m. Sunday. Pit gates open at 11 a.m., hot laps are from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and racing gets underway at 1 p.m.

Gates open at 11 a.m. and practice is from noon-4 p.m. Sundays Feb. 10 and 12. Gates open at 5 p.m. and an open practice runs from 6-10 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21.
