USMTS - United States Modified Touring SeriesCRANDALL, Texas (March 11) – Up next for the United States Modified Touring Series is a tripleheader at three popular speedplants in Texas and Louisiana this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, March 15-17.

The RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, kicks things off this Friday, March 15, with the inaugural Honeycutt Sand & Gravel Modified Nationals powered by Lecolift as the 1/4-mile semi-banked dirt oval hosts the USMTS Modifieds for the first time in the 15-year history of the series.

Fans have waited nearly a year for the debut as the inaugural event was rained out last year just as the team haulers were filling the pit area.

Long-time Dallas-Fort Worth businessman and racer Jason Troutman acquired the facility in November, and since then the track has seen several improvements including a newly-configured racing surface that drew rave reviews during the track’s grand opening event three weeks ago.

The pit gate opens at 4 p.m. and the grandstand gates swing open at 5 p.m. Hot laps are slated for 6:45 with the first green flag scheduled to unfurl at 7 p.m. Adults grandstand tickets are just $17, seniors ages 65 and older get in for $15, kids ages 6-12 are $5 and children 5 & under are free. Pit passes are $35. Limited Mods, Factory Stocks and Street Stocks will round out the four-division racing card.

The RPM Speedway is a 1/4-mile semi-banked dirt oval located southeast of US 175 in Crandall, Texas, on CR 4106 (Bud Stoy Rd. exit) to the intersection of CR 4104. For more information call 972-427-6822 or visit www.rpmspeedwaytx.com online.

From there, the teams trek to the Bayou State with a stop at Gene Boyter’s Ark-La-Tex Speedway in Vivian, La., on Saturday for the 4th Annual Lecolift Cajun Clash on Saturday, March 16.

Johnny Scott captured the win here the last time the USMTS visited on June 13, 2010. Jason Hughes won the event in 2009 and Duke Whiseant took home the hardware in his career-first USMTS start in the first-ever event here in 2008.

Pit gates open at 4 p.m., grandstand gates swing open at 5, hot laps take to the track at 6 and the racing action kicks off at 6:30. Adults grandstand tickets are $17, youth ages 13-18 are $10, kids ages 6-12 are $5 and children ages 5 & under get in for free. Pit passes are $35. Local B-Mods and Factory Stocks will round out the night’s racing card.

The Ark-La-Tex Speedway a 1/4-mile semi-banked dirt oval located 0.6 mile south of SR 2 on SR 1, then 0.7 mile west on Airport Rd., then 2.2 miles south on Boyter Lane Rd. For race day information, call the track hotline at 318-375-3470 or click www.arklatexspeedway.net to visit them on the World Wide Web.

The weekend tripleheader wraps up on Sunday, March 17, at the Boothill Speedway in Greenwood, La., where fans have been treated to some exciting USMTS shows in the past.

In 2009, a caution flag with five laps to go doomed Kelly Shryock as it erased a seven-second lead and allowed Jason Hughes to muscle his way to victory. Two year later, Shryock returned to exact his revenge and won the last USMTS race here in 2011.

Hughes also bagged the feature win in the series debut here in 2007, while Jack Sullivan won in April 2009 on what was then a big 7/16-mile oval. Since then, the track has been reduced to a racy 1/3-mile oval.

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. on Sunday, grandstand gates open at 5, hot laps begin at 5:30 and the racing starts at 6 p.m. Adults grandstand tickets are $17, youth ages 13-18 are $10, kids ages 6-12 are $5 and children ages 5 & under get in for free. Pit passes are $35. Local B-Mods and Factory Stocks will also be racing.

The Boothill Speedway is located west of Shreveport on I-20 to the Carthage-Morningsport Exit (exit 3), then 0.2 mile north, then east on McGee Rd. For more information call 318-938-5373 or check out www.boothillspeedway.org online.
