(April 5, 2013) Greenwood, NE – Oxford, Iowa’s Chris Simpson started on the outside pole, and bettered his finishing position by one spot Friday in Lucas Oil MLRA action. I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska has not been kind to Simpson in recent seasons. “We’ve had a rough couple years here,” said Simpson in Victory Lane. “It’s good to win now. We’ve got a good car. My dad’s here tonight. He told me I was going to come out here and win, so I’m glad I could do it for him.”

Simpson’s shot to lead the feature came with twelve to go, and he seized the opportunity. “We were good, and I knew Kyle (Berck) kept throwing dirt up in my lane. I moved just a little bit lower, and I could get more traction than him off of the corner). I think I feel asleep on the start. I’m glad to get up there and get a win.” Simpson also utilized the lapped car of Justin Mitchell as a type of pick to pin Berck momentarily, as they raced down the back stretch. This is Chris Simpson’s second career Lucas Oil MLRA triumph.

Two yellows slowed the race in the closing stages. A lap twenty-three yellow flew for Corey Zeitner, and three laps later for Jesse Stovall. Terry Phillips started third, and raced hard early with Kyle Berck, before settling into second. Behind Phillips, it was chaos as Will Vaught and Chad Simpson raced close with Berck. Simpson edged the two at the line for third.

Early in the night, heat race wins went to Justin Asplin, Travis Dickes, Jesse Stovall, Dave Eckrich and Chris Simpson. Kyle Berck won the six lap pole dash. Tomorrow racing will resume from I-80 Speedway at 5:55 PM, with a $3,000 to win show.
