Quincy RacewaysBy Jack Walbring – Quincy Raceways opened the 2013 season with a great night of competition as Jerry Lierly grabbed his first ever UMP Super Late Model feature event win in dramatic fashion. Brian Harris lead the main event for the first twenty eight circuits but Jerry Lierly worked to stay close and challenged Harris  throughout the event. Lierly seized his opportunity on twenty ninth lap as he caught Harris behind a lapped car and powered to his outside to take the lead and held on for the final two laps to take the win. Harris settled for second followed by Jason Perry in third, Denny Woodworth in fourth and Clint Kirkham in fifth. Lierly also claimed the win in the fast heat race while Mark Burgtorf took the other heat race win.

Steven DeLonjay picked up where he left off last season to claim his first feature win of the year in the UMP Modified main event. Michael Long led the first three laps but engine problems forced him pitside on lap four giving the lead over to Dave Wietholder. Wietholder then battled with DeLonjay and Robbie Reed over the next section of the twenty five lap main event with Reed taking the lead for a single lap at lap eleven. Wietholder powered back by Reed to reclaim the lead but Steven DeLonjay then picked up the battle and slipped past Wietholder on the sixteenth circuit to take over the top spot. Delonjay then pulled away for the feature win with Wietholder settling for second, Reed in third, Kenny Wallace in fourth and Shawn Deering in fifth. Long took the fast heat race win with Reed claiming the other heat race checkered flag.

Abe Huls and Terry Houston put on another great race in the IMCA Stock Car main event as the two battled nose to tail and side by side in the race. Houston got the advantage late in the event and led the final two laps to claim the feature event win. Huls came home in second followed by Jake Powers in third, Jerry Jansen in fourth and Darin Lambert in fifth. Houston and Huls took the heat race wins.

Tony Dunker took the lead in the Summy Tire and Auto Center IMCA Northern SportMod main event on the fifth lap and held back Bobby Anders in convincing style to take the win. Anders settled for second followed by Joe Blivens in third, Nathan Anders in fourth and Charles VanZandt in fifth. Joe Blivens and Dunker were the heat race winners.

It was a wild and wooly IMCA Sport Compact main event as Craig Bangert survived the mayhem to take the feature event win. Bangert held off Kimberly Abbott in second, Austin Bercerra in third, Brody Dunker in fourth and Bryce Baker in fifth. Brandon Lambert and Bercerra were the heat race winners.

Coming up next at Quincy Raceways will be the Clash for Cash as the Super Late Models of the ALMS, MARS and the Cornbelt Clash come to town to battle in a $3000 to Win, $400 to Start feature event on Sunday April 21. The Pit Gates open at 2:30, Grandstands at 4, Driver’s Meeting starts at 4:30, Hot Laps at 4:45 and Racing starts at 5:30pm.
