For the first time this season all three Lucas Cattle Company ULMA-sanctioned tracks hosted action during one weekend. When the last checkered flag fell, Jason Russell remained undefeated by wrapping up a double win weekend while Kenny Mudd started his season off with his first-ever ULMA victory.

Action began last Friday at Callaway Raceway as the track finally began its 2013 season after six straight weather-related cancellations. A pair of heat races determined the starting grid for the night’s main event in which current point’s leader Jason Russell wasted no time in making his way to the point. Russell ultimately sailed on to his third victory of the year but not without challenge as Jason Bodenhamer made his way to the front to make things interesting, especially through the mid-point of the race until a flat tire ended his charge to the front and after returning to the track he retired with additional mechanical woes.

Russell commanded the remaining laps in the event but the hard charge of the night went to Darren Turner, who was making his first start of the year. Turner came up through the field from sixth on the grid to claim the runner-up position. Rounding out the top five were Jon Binning, Justin Russell, and Ashlee Lancaster with Jon Melloway, Zeke Langley, Chris Cox, Jason Bodenhamer, and Bridget Clifford rounding out the top ten. Callaway Raceway goes right back into action again this Friday evening for week to in its 2013 season. To learn more about Callaway Raceway head over to www.callawayraceways.com.

Drivers had the option of going north or south for Saturday night’s competition and those who went south to Lucas Oil Speedway made their way into the main event starting grid by competing in three loaded heat races. Jason Russell, Payton Looney, and Jason Bodenhamer began the night with heat-race victories and claimed the top starting line positions. In a repeat of Friday’s action, Jason Russell once again found himself in a fierce duel with Jason Bodenhamer as the pair raced hard for the entire distance. On several occasions Bodenhamer ran side-by-side with Russell in close quarters but could never quite get the grip he needed in the line he was running to make the pass for the win.

In the end, Jason Russell went on to claim his fourth victory of the season and second of the weekend to remain undefeated. Bodenhamer settled for the second position while Daniel Jessen charged all the way from tenth on the grid to a spectacular third-place showing. Jeremy Kelley, Todd McCoin, Donnie Timmerman, R.D. Peterson, Chris Cox, Kevin Coyne, and Ethan Young rounded out the top ten. Lucas Oil Speedway hosts a special event this weekend followed by a weekend off; ULMA cars return to action at the track on Saturday, June 8. Like Callaway Raceway, Randolph County Raceway (RCR) in Moberly, Missouri finally began their season of Saturday-night racing this past weekend. The racing was close and competitive for the drivers who made their way to the track for competition with some drivers making their first starts of the year including Kenny Mudd, Terry Wilson, Larry Winn, and Steve Dieckmann.

Jon Melloway started the night off in a big way by claiming the heat race victory over Mudd, Winn, and Dieckmann to earn the pole position for the main event. With Melloway and Mudd leading the way early on, it did not take long for Mudd of Winfield, Missouri, to find his way to the front where he ultimately went on to record his first-ever ULMA victory. Former ULMA champion Vance Wilson rallied from his seventh-starting position to come away with his best finish of the year in second. The rest of the finish included Melloway in third position followed by Terry Wilson, Winn, Chris Lapp, Dieckmann, and Ashley Lancaster.

One of the biggest events of the year for ULMA competitors takes place this Saturday at RCR as the track hosts a $1,000-to-win ULMA main event! A field of strong competitors is expected to be on hand to race their way into the special feature event and a shot at the big win.

ULMA will continue its long-standing support of the Homes for Our Troops fundraiser during the night’s action to raise money for severely injured veterans. RCR and ULMA are strongly committed to helping those who have selflessly given to our country and have returned home with serious injuries. All proceeds that are raised on this night will go to helping build another handicap excisable home for a veteran in Missouri. To learn more about Homes for Our Troops visit www.homesforourtroops.org.

The proud supporters will have tables set up with items that were donated to sell. All proceeds from these sales go to Homes for our troops, which is a non-profit / non-partisan 501 © (3) organization. There will be free balloons for the kids and LED balloons for purchase. Come join us for a fun night at the races at Randolph County Raceway and show your support for our veterans.
